New Year, New Chances, New Choices.

We are on day 8 and most resolutions have already given up the fight! If sobriety is on your list, don't give up! Recovery is within reach.

Many people use drugs and alcohol to relieve stress, cope with pressure, or to suppress emotions. The truth that most people overlook is the fact that the problems, stress and pressures will still be the when they sober up! Creating a need for more "relief" or "escape".

The choice to sself medicate with drugs or alcohol places you in a slippery slope of dependency, addiction, and self-sabotage. Substance use and addiction add an additional layer of pressure and creates a new problem. Not solve them.

If you or someone you love are seeking help for alcohol or other drug use, youre not alone .

You dont have to have all the answers or figure it out by yourself. There are a variety of treatment options are available and programs that customize your recovery journey and treatment options to your individual needs.

Taking that first step can lead to health & healing. You can do this! Help is available.

There are a lot of people who want to support your win!

Here are a few options:

I have independent one on one recovery coaching options available through my coaching company Certified Addiction & Aftercare Servives at: caascoaching.org

Another helpful NATIONWIDE resource is available to help you find treatment options for both substance use and mental health in your local area is: Findtreatment.gov

GUEST EXPERT: DR. MARCI BATISTE ON WHEN BLK MEN TALK

"WHEN BLK MEN TALK welcomes Dr. Marci Batiste, Founder and Executive Director of The Silent Sons Initiative, for a powerful deep dive into one of the most urgent issues facing our communities today: the silent struggles of boys and young men.
The Silent Sons Initiative was created to stop the cycle before it starts. Too many young men are carrying unspoken burdens, battling pressure, expectations of manhood, and a lack of healthy coping skills. The cost is staggering. Adolescent male su***de rates have climbed at alarming levels, substance use is rising, and families are being fractured under the weight of untreated stress and unexpressed pain."

Obstacles are normal, setbacks are to be expected. Don't allow one thing to unravel everything else you've accomplished and are striving to achieve.

You may have been hurt, or humiliated but never broken. Let your vocabulary reflect your promise not your trauma.

The challenge with this is to not try to shrink yourself in order to try to fit back into the relationships like you do with your jeans!

4.17.2012 My own personal day of remembrance.... BUT GOD!.... so much had changed in me, around me, and through me! And this was just the beginning!

Today makes 13 years healed, whole and recovered from the grip of DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.

I learned many valuable lessons about love, life, and relationships since then.
Things like....
Red flags are no longer decorations, jealousy is no longer flattering.
I learned to set boundaries, gates that swing both open and closed as necessary.
I love just as hard but smarter.
I learned to trust again but not blindly.
I learned how to disqualify people's access to me early.
And Love is no longer validation, but overflow.

But most of all I learned how to love me enough for two.

Years ago I decided this day would be remembered as the day that CHANGED MY LIFE, not the day that destroyed it.

One of my favorite quotes:
"I may be forever changed by what has happened to me but I refuse to be reduced by it." ~DrMaya Angelou

That quote reminds me to use the rocks that have been thrown and the stones I've stumbled across to build me up instead of weigh me down.

I choose ME over and above all else.

Have a safe Survivors day to all of the other soldiers fighting this war. Too many home are still war zones.

Remember men are victims too! Everyone deserves to live and love SAFELY!

There are some monumental changes coming. So stay tuned. I'm in the lab!

When you're able to set the self-judgment down, you can begin to see that not everyone is against you. Not everyone wants to see you fail. Some folks actually want to see you win and would be in it with you if you'd stop fighting against them.
Let down your defenses and embrace change.

People think an apology should undo what they've done. It doesn't. In fact, nothing does.

What an apology is supposed to do is 1. take ownership of the action, 2. acknowledge it was wrong, then 3. accept the responsibility of changing the associated behavior so that the same negative outcome is not repeated.

So, if you're not signing up for those 3 things... save the apology. Keep the manipulation to yourself and allow the person you've hurt, disappointed, or violated to move accordingly because you, in fact, are NOT SORRY.

But to apologize and re-offend is dysfunction at its finest.

Can you say boundaries? Family can be some of the worst violators by insisting that they're entitled to know our have access to every aspect of your life. Which can add immense pressure and create stress filled situations unnecessarily.
PLOT TWIST!
Be unapologetic about your healthy boundaries. You don't need to over explain your decisions to keep things to yourself, and you certainly do not need to apologize for it.
WHAT, HOW MUCH, AND WITH WHOM you want to share is solely up to you.
