The Youth Development Commission is deeply saddened by the passing of Rev. Robert O. Dulin, Jr. who served as Vice-Chair of our board faithfully and fervently. His leadership, wisdom, and commitment to our mission of enhancing the lives of children and families with compassion will impact for a lifetime. For that, we will forever be grateful to the legacy and seeds planted as we continue forward.

While we're having a national conversation about who should take a knee or stand for the anthem, YDC is demanding change and taking a knee for education injustice and inequality in our schools. This includes textbooks, teachers, training, toilet paper, safety and MORE! Our Radio-Thon was beyond raising support dollars but to heightened awareness within our communities and schools. A few snapshots of who joined us in demanding change!

It's so hard to say goodbye! We had 8 AmeriCorps members complete their annual year of service including 3 members who gave us two terms! We couldn't have made the powerful impacts in our communities and schools without you. Our youth are stronger, wiser and college/career ready today because of you. Good luck at your next level challenges. 🌟

Our summer youth workers went through a real life Shark Tank experience the past six weeks with our partner Dream Deferred. They were engaged in leadership and entrepreneurship training which involved developing a business, marketing and product plan. We had some great presentations on display over the weekend at MSU-Detroit Center. Congratulations to all of you on a job well done! Each youth received seed money to jumpstart their project vision.

NOW HIRING!!!!!!!!!!
We are actively recruiting AmeriCorps members for the Success Mentor Project; a national initiative to eradicate chronic school absenteeism in our schools. Our project partners include Detroit Public Schools Community District, My Brothers Keeper, Michigan Community Service Commission and United Way.
The Youth Development Commission has been awarded an AmeriCorps grant to to utilize members as a strategy to assist with solving this complex issue. YDC will recruit, train and support AmeriCorps members to provide direct services addressing chronic absenteeism among students enrolled in one of 13 priority Detroit Public Schools.
Please contact our offices at 313-963-8916 to speak with YDC staff members William Paris or Kaye Sutherland.
