Detroit Youth Violence Prevention Initiative
DYVPI works to prevent youth violence in Detroit through positive youth programs and engagement. CITI Camp also includes a family involvement component.

We are proud to support our Ceasefire Team members.. Many have been and currently are our case managers for our youth programs.
Community group on the ground works to prevent teen violence in downtown Detroit Teenagers gathering in downtown Detroit have led to fights and arrests, prompting an increased police presence and intervention from a local community group on the Detroit Tigers' Opening Day.

Tuesday was the best! Over 100 youth having a fun day learning, laughing and coming together to talk about mental health, gun safety, and safe Spring Break. Child victim of gun violence - A Wonderful Life for India Williams Yesterday DPD provided a police es**rt to India's Senior Prom. India was 9 years old when she became a gunshot victim and the result was paralysis of her legs.
In 2015 there were 1035 Nonfatal shootings and 245 Homicides I 2024, Detroit had 203 homicides and 606 nonfatal shootings. We can do better still. With the combined focus on Multi level partnerships through Community groups, Community Violence Interruptors and our work with youth and families, we strive to find peaceful resolution and resiliency among those living and visiting our beautiful city.
“We’re always here, we never forget anybody," Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison said.
Shot and paralyzed as a child, Detroit teen celebrates prom with police es**rt India Williams, who was paralyzed by a stray bullet as a child, was sent off to her prom Thursday with support from the Detroit Police Department, who has been by her side for over a decade.

This week, we observe National Youth Violence Prevention Week and express our gratitude to Comerica Bank for their donation, which supported the Brotherhood Sisterhood Summit at Say Detroit. Our organization collaborates with trained DPD mentors in seven schools, offering events, substantive discussions, and resources for young people in Detroit. We valued the contributions of keynote speakers Sati Smith, CEO of Diversified Member Credit Union, and Michael Cheatham, Comerica Bank's VP of External Affairs and Chief Todd Bettison.
