We’re honored to have been named a finalist for Hour Detroit Magazine’s Best After-School Program! While we didn’t take home the top spot this year, we’re incredibly grateful for the recognition and proud to be in such great company alongside organizations doing amazing work for young people across our community.

🎉Congratulations to YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit on being named this year’s winner! Your commitment to supporting and empowering youth is inspiring, and we’re proud to stand alongside you in this important work.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our mission. We remain committed to creating opportunities, building confidence, and helping girls and young women thrive.

Checking in with someone can make a difference. A simple “How are you really doing?” may mean more than you realize. 💚

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, but the conversation does not end here.

Sometimes, the signs that someone may be struggling are easy to miss. A person experiencing a mental health crisis may show changes. It is also important to remember that not everyone struggles in visible ways. Some individuals may appear to be doing well on the outside while quietly carrying emotional challenges.

Our partners at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan have shared helpful information on recognizing signs of high-functioning depression: https://www.bcbsm.mibluedaily.com/stories/health-and-wellness/signs-of-high-functioning-depression

🍼🐤We had a great time showering new and expecting moms in our community with fun, food, and all the essentials they need for baby at our Tiny Kicks and Big Dreams Community Baby Shower. With the help of our amazing volunteers, sponsors, and partners we were able to provide diapers, wipes, bottles, strollers, car seats, other essentials and resources to new moms.

We could not do this without the help of our partners, sponsors, and volunteers! Thank you so much for showing these moms all the love! 💓

Sponsors: Ally , Corewell Health , and RBC Wealth Management
Partners: Corwell Health, Happy Mama Counseling , Calm Nonprofit , Detroit Health Department, Empowering Family Services, and Problem Pregnancy Center.

Today, we celebrate the mothers, grandmothers, caregivers, and mother figures whose love, strength, and sacrifice shape generations. 💐

At Alternatives for Girls, we are especially inspired by the moms in our programs who have fought tirelessly to create safer, brighter futures for their children. Every day, they choose courage, healing, and hope — even in the face of immense challenges.

This Mother’s Day, we honor the women who continue to rise, rebuild, and EmpowerHER families through resilience and unconditional love. 💜

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Alternatives For Girls.
