ISLE ROYALE: AFTER THE SEASON
Exploring the Island with Rob & Ray | September 24 – October 15, 2026
After another incredible summer working on Isle Royale—my fifth season and Ray's fourth—we weren't quite ready to head home.
So we loaded up our little 16-foot Lund, Knot Reel, with camping gear, fishing equipment, cameras, and enough supplies to keep us going, and headed out for one last adventure.
From September 24 through October 15, we explored some of the most beautiful and remote corners of Isle Royale National Park.
We visited historic sites, explored hidden coves, cleaned up remote beaches, encountered wildlife, and enjoyed some incredible fishing—including a 44-inch northern pike and some beautiful lake trout.
Along the way, we witnessed spectacular sunrises, brilliant fall colors, dramatic skies, northern lights, and the kind of peace and solitude that makes Isle Royale such a special place.
Some days were filled with adventure. Others were spent simply enjoying the quiet, watching the weather roll across Lake Superior, or sitting around a campfire.
The journey is now complete, but we've got plenty of stories, photos, and videos to share!
Here's what you can expect from this series:
Tuesdays and Thursdays: Follow our journey in chronological order, beginning September 24, as we share the places we explored, the people we met, and the adventures along the way.
Fridays: Special features, interesting discoveries, historical sites, wildlife encounters, fishing stories, and other memorable moments.
We'll also continue sharing photos and videos from the rest of our summer on Isle Royale throughout the week.
And eventually, we'll be putting together a video series documenting the adventure.
Whether you've spent years exploring Isle Royale, visited once, or are still dreaming of your first trip, we hope you'll enjoy coming along for the ride.
If you enjoy our adventures, give the Isle Royale Hub a follow, share our posts, and invite your fellow island lovers to join us!
The trip may be over, but the stories are just getting started!
