Did you know October is SIDS Awareness Month? It’s a good time to be sure you are taking steps to protect the little ones in your life. Remember to always place baby to sleep alone on his/her back, in their own space (crib, bassinet, or pack n’ play). The sleep surface should also only have a firm mattress covered with a fitted sheet. Other tips include dressing babies for the environment and not over bundling them, and to use a clean, dry pacifier at bedtime. For more information, call (330) 343-5555, ext. 1530 or email [email protected].

News Release--10/26/2026
**Tuscarawas County Health Department Offers Low-Cost A1C Screenings on November 4**
DOVER, OH-November is National Diabetes Awareness Month and a great time to learn if you are at risk for diabetes. For those who have diabetes, it is also a good opportunity to monitor their blood sugar levels. To help area residents, the Tuscarawas County Health Department is offering low-cost, walk-in A1C screenings on Wednesday, November 4, between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm at their medical office, 897 E. Iron Ave., Dover. For just $10 (cash only) per test, anyone can walk in on to get an A1C test, and fasting is not needed.
TCHD officials encourage residents to talk with their medical providers about diabetes. Those with a family history of diabetes, are overweight, or do not exercise regularly may have a greater risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
A1C screenings help residents track blood sugar levels and test for diabetes risk. The A1C finger-stick screening test measures average blood sugar over the past 2 to 3 months. Each person will receive a test result report to share with their medical providers.
To learn more about diabetes, visit diabetes.org or take the online American Diabetes Association risk test at diabetes.org/diabetes-risk-test.
