American Legion Post 53 Dupont WA Pat Tillman Memorial Post 53 is committed to mentoring our youth & supporting our community while serving America's Veterans. Come join us.

We meet at 9:00 AM on the 2nd Saturday of each month at the New American Mortgage Office on Center Dr in DuPont. The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow servicemembers and veterans. Hundreds of local American Legion programs and activities strengthen the nation one community at a time. American Legion Baseball is one of the nation’s most successful amateur athletic programs, educating young people about the importance of sportsmanship, citizenship and fitness. The Heroes to Hometowns program connects local Legionnaires with recovering wounded warriors and their families, providing a variety of support activities. The Legion raises millions of dollars in donations at the local, state and national levels to help veterans and their families and to provide college scholarship opportunities. The American Legion is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization with great political influence perpetuated by its grass-roots involvement in the legislation process from local districts to Capitol Hill. Legionnaires’ sense of obligation to community, state and nation drives an honest advocacy for veterans in Washington. The Legion stands behind the issues most important to the nation's veterans community, backed by resolutions passed by volunteer leadership. The American Legion’s success depends entirely on active membership, participation and volunteerism. The organization belongs to the people it serves and the communities in which it thrives. for more information please see our National website at http://www.legion.org

OUR FUTURE IS IN GOOD HANDS!

More good things are happening with YOUR American Legion Post 53 Family!

One of the most rewarding things we do at American Legion Post 53 in DuPont is recognize and support the remarkable young people in our communities. At our September and October meetings, we had the pleasure of welcoming some exceptional students who reminded us just how bright our future can be.

🎓 Tomorrow's Leaders — Boys & Girls State

We were delighted to hear from students who attended this year's American Legion Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Girls State programs. They shared their experiences, what they learned, and the opportunities these programs provided.

Please join us in recognizing:

🇺🇸 Kailee Alvarez — Girls State, September guest

🇺🇸 Lydia Lopez — Girls State, Curtis High School, University Place

🇺🇸 Min Kline — Girls State, Lakes High School, Lakewood

🇺🇸 Elijah Tavau — Boys State, Lakes High School, Lakewood

These programs help develop leadership, citizenship, and an understanding of how our government works. Hearing these students speak about their experiences was a wonderful reminder of why supporting our youth matters.

🏅 A Young Hero Among Us!

We were also honored to recognize 13-year-old Genevieve Kingsbury of Curtis Junior High School with an American Legion Auxiliary Youth Hero Award.

On February 27, 2026, during a swimming activity at Curtis High School, Genevieve noticed a student leader in serious distress, floating face down in the water.

While others were still trying to understand what was happening, Genevieve acted immediately. She pulled him to the pool wall, helped get him out of the water, and alerted the coach. The student had suffered a severe knee dislocation, and 911 was called.

Genevieve didn't hesitate. She saw someone who needed help, and she stepped forward.

That's courage, compassion, and leadership in action — and at just 13 years old!

❤️ This Is Why We Do What We Do.

Whether it's developing tomorrow's leaders through Boys & Girls State or recognizing an extraordinary act of courage, the American Legion Family is proud to stand behind the young people of our communities.

To Kailee, Lydia, Min, Elijah, and Genevieve: Congratulations! You make your families, your schools, and your communities proud.

And to everyone who supports American Legion Post 53 — this is another example of your support making a difference.

Congratulations to our Commander

American Legion Boys State is in the books for 2026. One of the students we sponsored, Elijah Tavau, sent this email to Lee Graw, our Youth Programs Coordinator:

Good Evening Sir,

I’m sorry this is so late, but I just want to thank you for sponsoring me to go to boys’ state, I really had an amazing time. The memories that came from the experience will truly shape the way I think moving forward. It was honestly a week that shapes a lifetime; from forming cities to winning different contests, our city was able to come together and build a community that worked extremely efficiently and competitively.

Thank you for also allowing me to be able to be a part of the first ever coed Boys State, being able to meet not just boys but also girls allowed me to open the way I thought and simulated the real-life government functions! Below I’ve attached a photo of our city, ELM, winning the “chant contest”! I truly had an amazing time.

Thank you again Sir,

Elijah Tavau
