The Assembly recently reorganized and I’m pleased to serve as Co-Chair of the Public Safety Committee! Public safety is one of the core responsibilities of government and the driving factor for why I ran for office. The work continues!

Three years ago today, Hamas terrorists carried out the savage October 7 attacks, murdering innocent men, women, and children and taking hundreds hostage.

Today, we remember those whose lives were stolen, honor the families forever changed, and stand with our Jewish neighbors against antisemitism and hatred.

That commitment matters here at home, too. The recent vandalism of an Anchorage memorial honoring the victims of October 7 was a disturbing reminder that hatred cannot be ignored or allowed to become normalized in our community.

Whatever our disagreements about politics or events in the Middle East, mourning victims of terrorism should never be controversial.

Today I had the privilege of attending the commissioning of the USS Ted Stevens in Whittier.

Senator Stevens was a giant in our state’s history and an unwavering advocate for Alaska, our military, and the men and women who serve. There’s something pretty special about seeing his name now carried by an American warship that will serve our country around the world.

A proud day for Alaska and a fitting tribute to a remarkable Alaskan!

Privacy or public safety? That’s a false choice.

I’m co-sponsoring a new version of Anchorage’s privacy ordinance that puts stronger privacy protections into law without weakening APD’s ability to investigate crimes or work with state and federal law enforcement.

Protect privacy. Go after criminals. We can do both.

Who doesn’t love a good sequel??

FTE Caps are BACK…with some changes, some new co-sponsors, and the same straightforward idea: if we approve the budget, we should know how many positions we are paying for.

This item will be available for public comment at our next meeting, Oct 6th.

Trick or Treat in the Heat began in Anchorage in 2005 for 5-year-old Ian Robbins, who was battling leukemia. His community brought Halloween to him early, and the tradition continues today in his memory raising money to support seriously ill children and their families.

School Board President Carl Jacobs and the School Board made an agreement with the Assembly in June: establish a joint committee to talk about what to do with buildings slated for school closures.

Then, a month later, Carl inexplicably decided not to honor that agreement.

Tuesday, we will be voting on a resolution from Sydney Scout, Yarrow Silver’s and I demanding they honor their word. Public trust starts with doing what you say you’re going to do. What do you think?
