The East Cleveland Neighborhood Center (ECNC) is a 501(c)(3) education enrichment center that promotes emotional wellness and decreases non-academic barriers through our self-efficacy, compassion, and evidence-based strategies. ECNC's mission is to 'Inspire Youth, Connect to the Future, representing the organization's commitment to helping children and youth grow up to economic opportunity and possessing skills to advocate for themselves and those in need. Since its inception in 1986, services have evolved from Out-of-School-time recreational activities to year-round in-school and after-school programs designed to incorporate evidence-based curricula that enhance social-emotional learning and skills that correlate to academic achievement, civic engagement, and healthy lifestyles. ECNC employs experienced, professional staff who appreciate and understand the population's social-economic determinants and cultural heritage. ECNC has relationships with schools and community agencies that provide opportunities for cross-sector coordination to address holistic needs and leverage community assets to help children and families achieve personal strengths and skills that lead to improved quality of life

👉🏽 The SOAR Program, a collaboration of ECNC and ECCS District, had its first Walk and Talk event on Saturday, 8/22. We chatted about navigating changes with new grades / school buildings, how the first day of school went, and what we’re looking forward to.

We had scholars and staff join us from ECCS District schools: Prospect, Caledonia, Kirk, and Shaw. 📚

Let’s connect and build community together. Who wants in on the next one?? 🏃🏽‍♀️‍➡️🏃🏽‍➡️🏃🏽‍♂️‍➡️

Why do so many of us believe that things must be hard to be valuable? We often take pride in the struggle itself, even glorifying it. It's a fascinating mindset to explore.

He spent his time focused on the ground, missing the feeling of flying. The ground was coming regardless. He chose to focus on the fall instead of the freedom.

The line between falling and flying is thinner than you think. It's not about the situation, but how you frame it. Think Buzz Lightyear: 'I'm not falling, I'm just falling with style.' What if your 'failures' are just your unique way of soaring?

Imagine knowing at 10 AM you're getting a whooping at 5 PM. Those 7 hours felt like an eternity, filled with more mental torture than the actual spanking. The worry didn't stop it, but it sure made the wait unbearable.

Remembering childhood travels sparks a realization: as you grow, the world seems to shrink. Experiences that once felt vast become more accessible.

It wasn't about the fall; it was about the years of effort, dragging those trees up the cliff. He was willing to pay the price for the experience he desired. Are you willing to pay the price for yours?

Our beliefs shape our reality. If you believe something must be difficult, your brain will find a way to make it so, even if it's simple. It's time to challenge those maladaptive beliefs and stop making life harder than necessary.
