Tonight our engine company hosted training bringing members together to sharpen skills, build teamwork, and stay ready for the next call. From stretching lines to dialing in fireground operations, every rep makes a difference when it counts.

With the upcoming forecasted weather Engine Company 1 has important announcements
We are currently forecasted to get 25-30 inches of snow from Saturday until Monday. Snowfall will be at rate of 1-2 inches every hour. Please stay off the roads and stay warm at home and wait the storm out
If you have a fire hydrant in front of your home or on your block we politely ask that you shovel the snow out and clear them 3 ft by 3ft in case of emergency.
Also make sure you are clearing snow from the gas meter, hot water heater vent, furnace vent, and the dryer vent if you have them.

With three new members having recently joined Engine Company 1 and the colder months approaching, we took the opportunity to introduce them to the fundamentals of engine company operations and showed them what it’s all about.
During the training, we went over operating a hose line. We demonstrated various positions on the hose line, and explained how to effectively advance and back up the line. As well as the difference in pressure between the 1¾-inch hose and the 2½-inch line during operation.
In addition to teaching the new members, we also learned about their strengths and areas for improvement. We emphasized that some of these tasks can be uncomfortable and challenging at first, but it’s essential to become comfortable with being uncomfortable in this line of work. Firefighting is not an easy job, but it is a rewarding and vital one.
