๐Ÿš” EDCOUCH POLICE DEPARTMENT | COMMUNITY OUTREACH ๐Ÿš”

The Edcouch Police Department was honored and thankful to be invited to Mr. Cavazosโ€™ Law Enforcement class at Edcouch-Elsa High School to share knowledge, experience, and demonstrate techniques used in the law enforcement profession.

Sergeant C. Fuentes, Officer E. Rangel, and Officer O. Ortega had the opportunity to explain and demonstrate various law enforcement techniques while giving students a closer look at the skills, training, and dedication required to serve and protect our community.

We appreciate Mr. Cavazos for welcoming our officers and providing this opportunity to connect with students who are interested in the field of law enforcement. Investing in the next generation of law enforcement professionals is an important part of building a stronger, safer community. ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

๐Ÿšฒ๐Ÿšจ SAFETY AWARENESS: SHARE THE ROAD WITH BICYCLISTS! ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿšฒ

The Edcouch Police Department reminds everyone that bicyclists have the right to use the roadway and that safety is a shared responsibility between cyclists and motorists. Following traffic laws and staying alert can help prevent serious accidents and save lives.

๐Ÿšด BICYCLIST SAFETY โ€“ TEXAS TRAFFIC LAWS

โ˜€๏ธ During Daytime:
โœ… Ride in the same direction as traffic.
โœ… Use designated bicycle lanes when available, or ride as near as practicable to the right side of the roadway.
โœ… Obey all traffic signs, signals, and stop signs.
โœ… Use proper hand signals when turning or stopping.
โœ… Ensure your bicycle has working brakes.
โœ… Wear bright or reflective clothing to improve visibility.

๐ŸŒ™ During Nighttime:
๐Ÿ”ฆ Texas law requires a white front light visible from at least 500 feet.
๐Ÿ”ด The rear must have either a qualifying red reflector or a red light visible from at least 500 feet.
๐Ÿฆบ Wear reflective clothing or reflective gear to help drivers see you.
โš ๏ธ Use extra caution when visibility is reduced.

๐Ÿš— DRIVERS: LOOK TWICE AND SHARE THE ROAD!

โœ… Check your surroundings and blind spots before turning, changing lanes, backing up, or pulling out of a driveway.
โœ… Check your corners and intersections for bicyclists before proceeding.
โœ… Look carefully before making right or left turns, especially when crossing a bicycle lane.
โœ… Give bicyclists plenty of space when passing.
โœ… Reduce speed and be patient when approaching a cyclist.
โœ… Avoid distractions and keep your eyes on the roadway.
โœ… Yield when required and never assume the roadway is clear without checking.

๐Ÿš” TRAFFIC LAW ENFORCEMENT NOTICE

The Edcouch Police Department will be actively enforcing traffic laws to help keep our roadways safe for everyone. Both motorists and bicyclists are expected to follow applicable traffic laws. Our goal is to prevent accidents, promote responsible behavior, and protect the lives of everyone in our community.

โš ๏ธ A FEW SECONDS OF INATTENTION CAN CHANGE SOMEONEโ€™S LIFE FOREVER.

Whether youโ€™re riding a bicycle or driving a vehicle, please stay alert, follow Texas traffic laws, and look out for one another. Letโ€™s work together to keep Edcouch safe!
