José’s Transplant journey “Tony”

Good morning everyone. I just want to remind you that "donating" to this journey does not necessarily mean an actual kidney. Time, money, medical material, even blood and plasma donation help.

Also, keep in mind, just bc you are not a match to Tony, doesnt mean you cant or arent a match to someone else. The way transplants work is not only to the direct person you know.

Jose “Tony” Medrano has struggled with diabetes for over 20 years. Nearly 5 years ago, his kidney function began to fail. His doctor started him on peritoneal dialysis at home but due to a life threatening infection and sugar levels, he had to have a catheter placed in his shoulder and told to continue with hemodialysis at a center.



It’s been a struggle for Tony who has worked hard his whole life to be confined to a machine to live. He receives dialysis treatment three days a week with restrictions on how much water he can drink and foods he can eat. Tony is a father to five children, four girls and one boy. His youngest is only 16-year-old. His hope is to live longer to see them grow, marry and have children of their own.



Tony’s best chance at a healthier longer life is a kidney transplant. Due to the shortage of deceased donors, he needs to find a living donor. Please help share Tony’s need for kidney! Please please please do not be afraid to say no!! Not just to us but to anyone. We have had so many people say they would be willing to donate. Donate time, money, kidney, support but now that it's coming together, everyone has backed out. Do not feel obligated to say yes! It gives people FALSE HOPE. You make things much more difficult for us. My expectations aren't very high for people but it's hard to be THE ONLY person.
