Two Cities, Two Countries, One Company, One Community...

Congratulations Dr. Anthony Tarquin, Dr. Shane Walker, and Dr. Guillermo Delgado! Their patent for Sea Water Reverse Osmosis System to Reduce Concentrate Volume Prior to Disposal was issued earlier this year. We recently receive the physical copy of their issued patent, which is in a beautiful new design by the PTO for patents above the 10 million mark.

The invention by Dr. Tarquin, Dr. Walker, and Dr. Delgado is all about saving water and increasing efficiency in the desalination process. We visited the site where they are building the water treatment system also known as Concentrate Enhanced Recovery Reverse Osmosis (CERRO) process. CERRO is licensed by Industrial Water Services (IWS), a local company owned by UTEP alumnus Paul Diaz.

The existing desalination system purifies about 75 percent of the water that is pumped up, and the rest is deemed unusable due to heavily concentrated salt.
The new water system seek to reduce unusable waste water from 25 percent to 6 percent. This technology could ultimately provide the city with almost 100 million gallons of water a year.

Industrial Water Services (IWS) is the local El Paso company that licensed the game changing water treatment technology known as CERRO. IWS is almost 22 years old, and provides water treatment equipment and services throughout the USA and Mexico with offices in both locations.

UTEP alumnus Paul Diaz's parents started the company, and Paul has since taken over. Paul graduated from UTEP in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. In 2015, he started Home Water Services which serves the residential water treatment market in the local area. Paul has been working full-time with IWS for over 15 years.
