Sheriff Scott Nelson and the Schley County Sheriff's extend their deepest condolences to the Leesburg Police Department and the family of Sgt. Barnhill during this difficult time.
It is with a heavy heart that I announce that we have lost one of our own... As many of our friends and followers are aware, Sergeant Allen Barnhill, a true Hero, Friend and Warrior, was transferred from Phoebe Putney Hospital to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville on October 10th, where he has been undergoing treatment for a highly aggressive cancer.
Since the first night there, his wife Candace, a school teacher and Hero in in her own right, has been by his side.
Unfortunately, Yesterday afternoon, on Wednesday October 28th, SGT Barnhill fought his last battle and succumbed to his illness. He passed peacefully at age 46 with his wife by his side. Heaven will be an even brighter place with Allen.
We have placed SGT Barnhill's patrol vehicle outside of the Leesburg City Hall with a wreath.
Tomorrow, October 30th it will be taken to Lee County Middle-West where SGT Barnhill served as a School Resource Officer and parked under the half staff flag that will adorn his casket.
On Saturday, October 31st, the vehicle and flag will return to the Leesburg Police Department where the flag will fly at half staff through Sunday over the vehicle on the front Lawn of the Leesburg Police Department.
The memorial service for SGT Barnhill will be held Monday, November 2nd at 11am at Joseph Jones Funeral home in Leesburg Georgia with internment, color guard, and Last-Call to immediately follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Albany.
The family will also receive visitors on Sunday evening, Nov 1st at Joseph Jones from 5-7pm.
We ask that you please keep SGT Barnhill's wife and family in your hearts and prayers. Anyone wishing to leave a note may adornn it to SGT Barnhill's vehicle through the weekend.
