The Erie Community Foundation is proud to support First Waves Erie, a project of The Watersmith Guild! Through a $10,000 grant from the William and Ethel Hovis Fund, the program is expanding access to Erie’s waterfront and creating new opportunities for local youth to learn, explore, and connect with their environment.

A project of the Watersmith Guild, First Waves Erie offers free, hands-on programming that connects youth with nature through standup paddleboarding, the art of filmmaking, and environmental education. Over the past three years, 65 underserved youth from the City of Erie have participated in the program.

By making Erie’s waterways more accessible, First Waves helps young people build confidence, explore their creativity, and develop skills that make them environmental leaders.

French Creek is an important natural resource for rural communities like Union City, offering opportunities to connect with nature close to home. 🌳

The Union City Community Foundation has invested $50,000 in the French Creek Trail Improvement Project, a larger effort to expand access to the French Creek Corridor. This funding will support trail access near the Willow Street Ball Field and First Avenue.

As a regional affiliate of The Erie Community Foundation, the Union City Community Foundation is proud to support this project and help make French Creek more accessible for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Our hearts are broken for the families and loved ones affected by Friday’s mass shooting in Erie, Pennsylvania. We mourn the loss of nine lives, including two children, and hold our community close during this painful time.

We are grateful to our first responders, Erie police and fire, and Mayor Daria S. Devlin and her team. As Erie mourns, we stand together in compassion and care for one another.
