Elected Prosecuting Attorney
Jason Cummings
Welcome to the official page of the Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. This page is intended to provide information to the community we serve about current events, workings of the criminal justice system and our office’s part in it, and how we are working to help create a safer and happier Snohomish County. The Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office is committed to the responsible exercise of its prosecutorial discretion in ways that best serve our diverse community. We do so by supporting and advocating for crime victims and their families, holding individuals who harm others and commit crimes accountable, and preserving and protecting the rights of the accused. It is our mission to pursue justice fairly, firmly, and ethically, and to help create safe and livable communities for everyone while maintaining the trust and respect of those we humbly serve. We are also dedicated to pursuing innovative alternatives to traditional prosecution that include embedded therapeutic programs designed to address the root causes of criminal behavior. As an office, we highly value hard work, teamwork, and a healthy work-life balance. We have three main divisions of our office:
Criminal Division
The Criminal Division is responsible for prosecuting all adult and juvenile felonies that occur within Snohomish County, as well as misdemeanor and gross misdemeanors that occur in unincorporated areas. The Criminal Division also has a Victim/Witness unit, which provides advocacy services for crime victims and assists them through the court processes. Family Support
Attorneys in this Division represent the State of Washington (Division of Child Support) in the judicial establishment of parentage and child support, enforcement of child support orders, modification of existing child support orders, and representation of State interest in private dissolution, parentage and nonparental custody actions when tax dollars have been expended to support a child. Civil Division
The Civil Division of the Prosecuting Attorney's office serves as the legal advisor to all county departments and agencies and defends or prosecutes civil cases on behalf of county government. These attorneys help develop County legislation by researching, reviewing, and preparing proposed ordinances, motion resolutions, policies, and other legislation. They prepare and review contracts, agreements and real property instruments for all County departments and elected officials.
