October is Texas Law Enforcement Appreciation Month, and I want to personally thank the men and women who wear the badge with courage, integrity, and dedication.

To my deputies at the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office and our fellow officers across Texas: I know the long hours, difficult decisions, and sacrifices this profession demands. I am proud to serve alongside you and grateful for your commitment to keeping our communities safe.

To your families, thank you for standing beside you and sharing in those sacrifices. Your support means more than words can express.

Today, Sheriff Benny Martinez was honored to join Governor Greg Abbott at the Governor’s Mansion in Austin to celebrate the beginning of Texas Peace Officer Appreciation Month.

Following the celebration, representatives of the Operation Lone Star Task Force, which includes Goliad, Kleberg, and Brooks counties, met with the Governor and his policy advisor to discuss the task force’s future and how we can continue to meet the needs of our communities and the State of Texas.

We are proud that Brooks County was selected to be part of a small group representing law enforcement from across Texas. Through continued partnership, we remain committed to supporting our peace officers and keeping our communities safe.

Today, we remember September 11, 2001, and honor the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the brave first responders who answered the call without hesitation.

As Sheriff, I am reminded of the courage, sacrifice, and unity our nation showed on that day and in the days that followed.

On behalf of myself and the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office, we will always remember, always honor, and never forget.
