Our 6th graders had a wonderful time at the Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery, experiencing four hands-on learning rotations led by amazing Michigan DNR staff! Students explored the visitor center and museum, investigated a pond, took a nature walk using binoculars to identify trumpeter swans, and toured the hatchery to learn about steelhead, salmon, and sturgeon—which can live for an incredible 400 years!
The best part? We got a preview of the salmon eggs that will be coming to our Science classrooms this month as part of our Salmon in the Classroom program! We can't wait to raise these fish and follow their journey from eggs to release in the spring. A huge thank-you to the DNR staff for sharing their knowledge and making science come alive!

It's time for Mrs. Jones' Book of the Week! Truck in the Muck by Sophia Gholz is a fun, engaging story that highlights the power of teamwork, problem-solving, and helping one another. Reading together gives families an opportunity to build connections, strengthen early literacy skills, and spark meaningful conversations. When families share books, they nurture a love of reading and show children that learning is even more rewarding when we do it together.

Join us tonight!

We are honored to be hosting An evening with Dr. Irene Miller, Holocaust Survivor
Monday, November 2nd 6-7:30pm
Fennville High School Sheehan Auditorium
A free community event, refreshments to follow
Dr. Irene Miller, a Holocaust survivor, author, speaker, and educator will take you on a survival journey little written and known about. You will sleep in the winter under an open sky on no man’s land; you will freeze in a Siberian labor camp where the bears come to your door front. In Uzbekistan, you will live on boiled grass or broiled onions, and shiver with malaria. You will spend years in orphanages. When this is over you will wonder how a child with this background grows up to become a positive, creative, accomplished woman with a joy of living and love to share.
It is a story of courage, determination, perseverance, and the power of the human spirit.

Nominations are open for the 2027 Distinguished Alumni Award and 2027 Paine Volunteerism Award! To view past award winners and submit your nominations visit fennville.org

Distinguished Alumni: In order to recognize and inspire excellence at Fennville Public Schools, the Distinguished Alumni program honors truly outstanding graduates of Fennville High School. To be eligible for recognition as a Distinguished Alumnus, a graduate will have demonstrated true excellence in an achievement, a series of achievements, or over a career. Recognition as a Distinguished Alumnus is the highest honor Fennville Public Schools bestows upon a graduate.

Paine Volunteerism: The FPS Board of Education, in its desire to provide a lasting recognition to Clifford E. Paine, Jr. for his 19 years of dedicated service to the school district, established the Clifford E. Paine Volunteerism award in 1989. The purpose of this award is to promote the concept of community volunteerism by the students of the district, and to provide special recognition for others who may volunteer their time and talents toward the improvement of educational opportunities in the district. This is an annual award and will be presented to a member of the Fennville community who has distinguished themselves through community volunteerism and/or toward the improvement of educational opportunities for students in the District.

A small group of Fennville students visited Nelson Steel for an up-close look at the world of steel fabrication and welding! This trip gave students the chance to see skilled tradespeople in action, explore the equipment and processes behind the work, and learn about the career paths available right here in West Michigan.

Payten, a sophomore, shared why this visit mattered to him, “I have a strong interest in welding because I enjoy the focus and hands-on nature of the trade. It takes a lot of steady concentration to maintain that kind of focus day in and day out, which is exactly why I was looking forward to this trip.”
