We are a small department with all volunteer members, but we do our best and are proud of what progress we have made over the years. All our our members are trained in CPR and EVOC/EVDT (Emergency Vehicle Operators Course)/ (Emergency Vehicle Driver Training) if 21 or older. Fall brings cooler temperatures and colorful fall foliage, but it also brings an increased risk of wildfires due to dry conditions, low humidity and fallen leaves, which act as a ready fuel source.

Now through Nov. 30, use extra caution with any potential ignition sources, especially outdoor fires. Additional guidance on how you can stay safe this fire season can be found on our website: https://ow.ly/Xxah50ZXZ4w

October 10, 2026

This evening one of our firetrucks was involved in a single vehicle rollover crash. The truck was responding to a structure fire on Natural Tunnel Parkway to provide mutual aid water support for Duffield Fire Department.

Our firefighter self extricated himself from the truck and was transported to Holston Valley Hospital by Scott County Life Saving Crew with non-life threatening injuries.

We would like to thank Dungannon Fire Department, Scott County Life Saving Crew, Scott County Sheriff's Office, VSP, and the many other providers that was on scene with us.

Our firefighter will have a long road to recovery ahead of him. Requesting everyone to keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

The general public as a whole needs to have more respect and show more maturity when operating motor vehicles.

Just saw on the news where 3 Kingsport Firefighters and 1 Sullivan County EMT was struck by a vehicle while working a secondary crash on the interstate that was caused by the first crash.

Vehicle operators, your main responsibilities while driving is to focus on the road in front of you, be aware of your surroundings, and create a safe environment for those in your vehicle. You want to make it to and from your destination safely. If something is going on that takes your conceration off of the road (a distraction), you become a distracted driver and a danger to others.

Just think about this. Can you perform your best and focus better when you can concentrate on the task at hand or when your distracted and trying to multi-task?

Everyone is in such a rush anymore, road rage is bad, posted speed limits don't seem to apply anymore, people think they are above the law, road work signs and work zones are being ignored, traffic signals/lights ignored, stopped school buses and school zones are ignored, etc........ The list could go on and on.

We need to get back to having a healthy respect for the laws of the road and other commuters that the roads are shared with. Driving is a privilege, not a right.

Pay attention, slow down, and move over.

Thankful that the Kingsport Firefighters and the Sullivan County EMT was able to come away from this accident without life threatening injuries. Our Lords hedge of protection was definitely around them.

At approximately 10:00 p.m. last night, members of the Kingsport Fire Department were operating on Interstate 26 Westbound at the scene of a motor vehicle accident when a secondary crash occurred behind the original incident.

Kingsport firefighters and personnel from Sullivan County EMS immediately went to the secondary crash to check for injuries and provide assistance. While emergency personnel were loading a patient into an ambulance, a vehicle traveling westbound struck three Kingsport firefighters and one Sullivan County EMS EMT, injuring all four emergency responders.

All four personnel were transported to Johnson City Medical Center for evaluation and treatment. Two have since been treated and released. Two remain hospitalized this morning with injuries that are considered non-life-threatening.

We are extremely thankful that the injuries sustained by our firefighters and our partner from Sullivan County EMS were not more serious. Our thoughts and prayers remain with all four responders, their families, and everyone involved in this incident as they recover.

This incident is also a sobering reminder of the dangers firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement officers, tow operators, and highway workers face while operating along our roadways. We ask every driver to slow down, move over, remain alert, and give emergency personnel the space they need to safely perform their duties.

We appreciate the concern and prayers that have already been expressed for our personnel and our partners at Sullivan County EMS. We ask that you continue to keep everyone involved in your thoughts and prayers.

A Volunteer Firefighter may not earn a paycheck for every call, but the impact they make is priceless.

When an emergency happens, they leave their families, jobs, and personal plans behind to serve their community. That kind of dedication can't be measured in dollars.

Thank you to every Volunteer Firefighter who answers the call when others need help most. πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’πŸš’β€οΈ
