VLB Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D., delivered some beautiful remarks at the first annual Tuskegee Airmen Commemoration Day last month.
We celebrated the first anniversary of our Tuskegee Airmen Texas State Veterans Home in Fort Worth, which is named after the first all-African American military pilots in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Not only does this nursing home provide the utmost care to Texas Veterans, but it also stands as a living tribute to the courageous legacies of those extraordinary aviators.

The Tuskegee Airmen Texas State Veterans Home celebrated its first anniversary today!
Commissioner Buckingham and the Texas VLB hosted a special celebration at the Tuskegee Airmen TSVH to honor these incredible, distinguished pilots on the first annual Tuskegee Airmen Commemoration Day.
Named after the first all-African American flying group in the U.S. Armed Forces, this 100,000-square-foot home opened in 2025 and has been proudly serving a tightly knit community of Veterans in Fort Worth.
"There is no greater act of service than pledging to fight for your country. It is an honor to celebrate the Tuskegee Airmen on the first annual Tuskegee Airmen Commemoration Day at the Texas State Veterans Home, which is named in honor of their fortitude and bravery while serving during World War II." - Commissioner Buckingham

Texans, let's show some love to our Veterans this Valentine's Day! ❤️
Commissioner Buckingham is encouraging everyone to participate in the VLB's "Valentines for Vets" campaign.
Help us honor and show our appreciation to the brave men and women who served our country by mailing a Valentine's card to the Veterans who reside in any of the 10 Texas State Veterans Homes.
All cards should be postmarked by February 10th and include 'Valentines for Vets' in the mailing address.
