As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, Dementia-IQ is reminding caregivers that their mental health matters, too.
Hollie and Jaime share practical ways caregivers can care for themselves while caring for someone living with dementia: naming what you’re feeling, asking for help, taking guilt-free breaks, and connecting with others who understand.
Sometimes, simply hearing “me too” from another caregiver can be deeply validating.
James L. West Center for Dementia Care offers caregiver support groups both online and in person. Online groups meet Wednesdays from 1–2:30 p.m., and in-person groups meet Fridays from 11 a.m.–12 p.m. at James L. West.
Visit jameslwest.org for more information, and remember: taking care of your mental health is part of caregiving.

Mental health doesn’t always look like a crisis. Sometimes it looks like rereading the same sentence, needing a deep breath, feeling impatient, or simply pushing through a heavy day.
This Mental Health Awareness Month, remember: you’re not doing it wrong. You’re doing okay. Small breaks count. 💜
