💫 SIX YEARS OF OPOM! 💫

The City of Fort Worth's Office of the Police Oversight Monitor (OPOM) was first established in February 2020 as a mechanism with which to provide oversight and accountability of the Fort Worth Police Department. For the past six years, the office has made tremendous efforts to uphold its mission of serving as a proactive leader in law enforcement accountability and transparency.

OPOM looks forward to many more years of continuing our work in law enforcement accountability through data-driven means, nurturing community and stakeholder relationships. ✨

Such great oversight conversations were had at Saturday’s annual neighborhood awards celebration, wonderfully executed by the City of Fort Worth’s Community Engagement team.

The celebration acknowledges the remarkable work done by Neighborhood Associations and HOAs to keep their communities actively engaged. The OPOM team looks forward to more meaningful opportunities to share and discuss civilian oversight in Fort Worth!

✨ OPOM Community Conversations ✨

✨ Over the past week, Bonycle Sokunbi, Office of the Police Oversight Monitor (OPOM) Director, participated in SteerFW's annual Future of the City: Love Where You Live event. This event focused on civic connection, dialogue, and the definition of loving where you live. Roundtable conversations allowed for deeper community discussions and featured a host of great leaders contributing to Fort Worth’s growth.

✨ During a community town hall in Aurora, Colorado, Bonycle presented and answered questions about civilian police oversight in Fort Worth, particularly processing complaints stemming from police misconduct.

On Saturday, the Office of the Police Oversight Monitor (OPOM) presented at the District 11 Citizenship Workshop, a community event organized by Councilwoman Jeanette Martinez.

Lucy Tarin, OPOM’s Use of Force Analyst, shared valuable insight into OPOM functions, police misconduct, and what the complaint process entails. To ensure understanding and inclusivity, Lucy's Spanish presentation was well received.

Residents also had the opportunity to engage with presenters following the presentations, allowing them to further discuss issues important to them.
