Communities flourish when we invest in the people and places around us.

They grow when people care enough to plant seeds for the future, supporting education, families, local nonprofits and the everyday heroes who serve our community.

That’s the work happening through United Way of Tarrant County, and last year it helped reach nearly 400,000 people across Tarrant County.

Together, we’re helping our community take root and flourish.

That’s a wrap on the 2026 Women United Luncheon, and what a milestone-filled day it was!

This year, Women United awarded $115,000 to seven local nonprofits serving women and girls across Tarrant County, marking our highest grant total yet and the largest group of recipients in our history.

Congratulations to this year’s Women’s Fund grant recipients:
Community Healing Mental Health Project (CHAMP)
Diamond Hill Northside Youth Association
The Foundation for Young Women’s Leadership Academy
Laundry Love Fort Worth
Mental Health Connection Tarrant County
Refugee Empowerment Network
Tarrant County Academy of Medicine’s Project Access Tarrant County

A special congratulations to Cathy David, recipient of the 2026 Changemaker Woman of the Year Award. As a longtime member of Women United and a dedicated champion for women and girls across our community, this recognition is incredibly well deserved.

We also heard from an inspiring panel of women who are breaking barriers, leading boldly, and creating space for others to do the same. Thank you to Kari Crow Seher of MELT Ice Creams, entrepreneur Sarah Castillo, and UT Arlington Women’s Flag Football Head Coach Melinda Nguyen for sharing your experiences and insights. And thank you to Jordan Stimpson of Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP for leading such a thoughtful conversation.

We’re grateful to our generous sponsors, including presenting sponsor Security State Bank & Trust, as well as GXA, CornerStone Staffing, Dynamic Development Strategies, LLC, Amegy Bank of Texas, Fort Worth Report, Frost, Ryder System, Inc., and Sutton Frost Cary LLP, for helping make this year’s Women United Luncheon possible.

Lastly, thank you to everyone who attended and to the Women United Advisory Council for hosting such a meaningful event. The encouragement and support felt throughout the luncheon made one thing clear: there is incredible momentum behind this work, and Tarrant County is ready to answer the call.

Our Women United Luncheon is today! To celebrate, we’re highlighting another 2025 Women United Impact Grant recipient, Laundry Love Fort Worth.

Laundry Love helps people move through life with dignity by providing clean clothes, meals and meaningful connections.

With support from the Women United Impact Grant last year, Laundry Love purchased software to modernize both its internal and external processes. Instead of relying on paper, they now manage clients, volunteers and donor relationships through an accessible website, helping them serve the community more efficiently.

Stay tuned for content from our 2026 Women United Luncheon, including the announcement of our newest grant recipients!

Quiet in the office but making a big impact behind the scenes, meet Sean Bowman, UWTC's senior accountant!

Day-to-day, Sean helps ensure UWTC is on track financially through reporting, journal entries and account monitoring, which allows our organization to continue responding to our community’s greatest needs.

While he often works behind the scenes, Sean notes a core memory of his time at UWTC, when our organization responded to last summer's six-alarm Cooper Apartment Fire, which displaced more than 800 residents. UWTC joined local leaders to launch a relief fund, helping raise and distribute more than $100,000 directly to those impacted. "I could see and feel the gratitude and relief felt by the residents, even though I wasn't physically present when the funds were handed out at our office," he said.

While Sean brings a calm and steady presence to the office, he also has a competitive side. Fresh off winning the UWTC staff fantasy football league championship honors this past season, he plans to “enjoy the victory until September” before turning his attention to defending the title.

Fun fact: Before working with numbers, Sean lived at high speeds. He began racing go-karts in his hometown of El Paso, TX, at just 11 years old. He later moved up to cars and won the 2011 street stock season championship at El Paso Speedway Park!

We’re grateful for everything Sean brings to UWTC and lucky to have him on our team.

We had the best time at Coffee and Connections!

They're always a big hit and a fun way for older adults to meet each other while learning more about resources available to them.

Our attendees enjoyed breakfast, won door prizes, and learned more about each other through a friendly game of bingo.

This event was hosted by our Area Agency on Aging and the Social Isolation and Loneliness Coalition, which works to prevent loneliness and improve mental health in older adults.

Confidence starts with having a place to grow.

Iamher is helping middle school girls navigate life with confidence through mentorship and hands-on workshops, creating an environment where they can show up as themselves and build skills that last beyond middle school.

With support from a Women United Impact Grant, the organization now has a dedicated space that gives both the girls and staff room to dream bigger while creating a consistent place to gather, plan and grow.

Join us at the Women United Luncheon on Thursday, May 14, at River Ranch Stockyards to be part of what’s next and help fuel more stories like this.
