here's a tip that I learned...

built-in flash is bad. it's harsh and direct. makes you look shiny and unflattering and causes hard shadows behind you (sometimes makes your head or hair look bigger than it actually is right?).. but we sometimes use the built in flash in our cameras when it's dark. so when you use your flash, take a piece of white paper or even a napkin, cover the flash and voila! your flash is diffused and evens out the light. it sounds weird but I kid you not, it'll make your photos better. Try it out with your digital camera and see if you can tell a difference!

I started with the simple idea of the value of a photo - more specifically the price of a photo. I was against the idea of paying $500+ for senior portraits in high school. I was a rebel. I refused. So I invested in my own simple, $300 film SLR camera and began taking photos... photos of friends and family and more importantly portraits of high school seniors who were against paying a heavy price tag for portraits. everyone deserves beautiful pictures for every important moment in their life. A lot has changed since 2007... upgraded cameras twice, invested in more equipment, changed my style, and studied the art of photography in school. but one thing hasn't changed - my philosophy that any moment, big or small is worth a shot. :-)
