During Friday night’s 12-hour Maximum Enforcement Period, CHP personnel of all ranks and assignments were on the road across Calitornia with a strong tocus on impaired driving and other dangerous driving behaviors that cause crashes.

Impaired driving puts everyone at risk. If you have been drinking or using impairing substances, don’t drive.
Designate a sober driver, use a rideshare, or find another safe way home.

Make the right choice before you get behind the wheel.

This Maximum Enforcement Period is about more than enforcement. It’s about preventing the next tragedy.

From 6:00 p.m. October 2 through 5:59 a.m. October 3, CHP personnel of all ranks and assignments will be working throughout California, with a particular focus on identifying and removing impaired drivers from the road.

In 2017, CHP Officer Mark Latulippe’s family experienced a devastating loss caused by an impaired driver. Their story is told in the Emmy Award-winning CHP documentary Falling — a powerful reminder of why this work matters and what can happen when someone chooses to drive impaired.

This MEP isn’t about how many citations are written or arrests are made. It’s about preventing crashes, saving lives, and making sure more families make it home safely.

Drive sober. Arrive alive.
