COLUMBUS STREET CLOSURE UPDATE:
Columbus Street from east side of the Middle Street/Columbus Street Intersection to the west side of Walnut Street/Columbus Street intersection will be closed for construction between per the following plan:

Beginning Monday, October 19, traffic will be closed for construction of the stop pad. The concrete is planned to be poured by October 22 and requires five days for curing.
On Monday, October 26, milling will be performed on Columbus Street and the repair on the north bound lane of Middle Street will be completed.
Tuesday and Wednesday, October 27-28, is scheduled for new pavement.
Thursday, October 29 is scheduled for installation of the raised speed table.
The project is scheduled for completion by Sunday, November 1, weather permitting.

Pedestrian access to all businesses will be maintained.
Additional parking is available at the Village Hall north of the Village Square.

You can provide habitat for overwintering insects, add nutrients to your lawn or compost file from fallen leaves, put your pumpkins to good use, and winterize rain barrels.

📣 Don’t Forget — Public Hearing Next Week

The Village of Galena Planning & Zoning Commission will hold a Public Hearing next week regarding a proposed development plan for property located at 50 Front St.

To be eligible for a council appointment, candidates must meet the following criteria:
✅Be a registered voter
✅Presently live within the village
✅Must have lived in the village for at least one year.

You’ve seen the recently installed sidewalks on the Village Square. And you’ve probably noticed the work that has started on North Walnut Street to add additional parking.

We’re not done yet. There are two more projects about to get started near the Village Square.

Columbus Street Improvements: Our contractor will soon start work on the installation of heavy-duty pavement, a raised center-block crosswalk, and new striping. This work is scheduled to begin within the next two weeks with completion by Nov. 15th, 2026.

South Walnut Street Roadway, Sidewalk and Parking Improvements: Big improvements to South Walnut are about to start. The guardrail will be relocated to allow properly designed, paved and striped parking spaces. In addition, South Walnut Street will be widened and a new sidewalk will be installed. This work is also scheduled to begin within the next two weeks with completion by Nov. 15th, 2026.

There will be some temporary disruptions to parking while our contractors complete this work. Please check our website for details and updates to the schedule.
