Election day is tomorrow and I am running for re-election.
Rather than worrying about the election results, I find myself thinking back to all that we have accomplished in my four year term as Trustee of the GGUSD Board of Education. It brings me the most immense peace and joy to think back on all the beautiful memories. I have been so honored and blessed to have met the most amazing students, families, and staff.

Dr. Lorena Sanchez (Assistant Superintendent, K-12 Educational Services), Tanya Avina (Director, English Language Programs) and I attended a Native American Heritage Celebration. I learned so much about the culture, diversity and values of Native American tribes. We enjoyed hearing about the stories that have been passed down from ancestors and seeing the proud and talented dancers in their regalia.
Lupe Lopez, Native American parent of 2 of the GGUSD alumni who danced was on the planning committee for this event. She is also an active parent on our GGUSD Indian Grant Parent Committee.
I also had the pleasure of talking to Congressman Lou Correa who shared words of encouragement on my re-election campaign.

Here's a special event I had the privilege of attending Oct. 29 for the special Celebration of the passage of Assembly Bill 1805. Assembly Member Tri Ta lead the effort in partnership with Senator tom Umberg, Coastline Community College District, members of the Mendez family, the original school districts and other members of the legislature.
AB1805 allows for the inclusion of curriculum materials in California schools on the historic court Case Mendez et al. v. Westminster School District of Orange County et al. (1946).
The case lwas brought by the Estrada, Guzman, Palomino, Ramirez, and Mendez families against the school districts of El Modena, Garden Grove, Santa Ana, and Westminster in 1945 to challenge the practice of school segregation in Orange County. The Ninth Court of Appeals' subsequent ruling upheld the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment and strengthened the argument for Brown V. Education which would be heard in 1954.
