Feeding your cart recyclables in plastic bags? No thanks!

Plastic bags get stuck in my teeth and in the machines of recycling facilities', making it difficult to actually recycle those materials. Next time you feed your cart, make sure to leave your recyclables loose!

Want to know what else you should avoid? Visit FeedTheCart.org for more information!

There’s more to cardboard, metal, plastic, glass and paper than meets the eye. These materials also turn into NEW THINGS when they’re recycled.

Take metal cans for example. When recycled, they could become aluminum foil, airplane parts and even MORE CANS! MMM, MMM, MMM! Tasty for me — good for the environment.

The Kane County Recycling Center at 517 E. Fabyan Parkway between Geneva and Batavia WILL BE CLOSED TEMPORARILY for repaving starting Mon. October 19, 2026, with anticipated re-open date in mid-November. We have a page for project updates and alternative locations in the tri-cities/Aurora area for recycling and item donation: https://www.kanecountyil.gov/Recycling/Pages/Fabyan_Repaving.aspx

While we understand that this temporary closure will cause some inconvenience, we look forward to a safer, more functional site in the near future!

This is a great opportunity because these items are tough to recycle! Pots and seedling trays in reusable condition (no major cracks or holes) are being collected for re-use - drop off at 2315 Dean St. through the end of October!

Note: black plastic pots or trays in poor condition should go in the trash. White or clear pots (used increasingly by large nurseries that stock Home Depot, WalMart, etc.) can often be rinsed and recycled - look for plastic numbers 1, 2 or 5.

Did you take advantage of the beautiful weather this past weekend and did some fall planting? Good news! KDSWCD has extended our pot collection through the end of October!

Bring empty plug cells, pints, quarts, gallons, trays - they are not recyclable and we want to keep them out of the landfill. They can be from any nursery. We have several growers who can re-use them!

Drop off anytime at our front door 2315 Dean Street, Suite 100 in St Charles.

Please, no plastic bags! Leaving your recyclables loose ensures the materials can be sorted and don't get twisted inside my stomach (or at the recycling facility).

Did you know one of my favorite things to eat is pizza boxes? Make sure to remove the food, flatten the box, and feed it to your cart!

I feel so included at pizza parties now! Learn more about updated technology with American Forest & Paper Association and about more items you can feed your cart at FeedTheCart.org.
