🌲 Trail clearing in action!

The USDA Forest Service – Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland, in partnership with Grand Lake Trailgroomers, Inc. and Headwaters Trails Alliance, recently cleared downed trees and overgrown saplings along a two-mile section of trail in the Sulphur Ranger District.

This snowmobile/winter-only route begins at the north end of F.S. Road 121.1 and connects to F.S. Road 123 near the Illinois Pass Trailhead.

Check out the before and after! The first three photos show the trail before clearing, and the next three show the completed work.

πŸ‘ Great work by these partners to keep Grand County’s winter trails accessible and maintained!

Effective October 9, 2026, Grand County is no longer under fire restrictions.

Please be extremely cautious with fire and make sure they are completely out with coals cold to the touch before leaving them unattended.

For current fire conditions and allowances:

The East Troublesome and Williams Fork burn scars have created unprecedented scenes in our county. The Grand Lake area as well as US Hwy 125 is still in a post-fire recovery state. Please exercise caution when recreating in these areas paying special attention to potentially dangerous fire burned trees and possible flash flooding.
