A new fire station means faster response times, improved public safety, and a stronger community. This new facility is an investment in keeping our residents safe and ensuring our firefighters are ready when every second counts.

As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close, we celebrate the history and contributions of the Latino community and Latino firefighters through bilingual signage and artwork by artist Arturo Morales. This station serves as a lasting reminder that our city and its services belong to everyone!

Aaniin! Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day! Today, we honor the Anishinaabek - Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi - the original people of this place we call home.

We celebrated with the Grand Rapids Public Museum’s new exhibit on the Anishinaabek and had the opportunity to meet Junior Miss Odawa Nation, featured in one of the exhibit’s holograms! Today was a beautiful reminder to learn from Anishinaabek storytellers, celebrate their culture, and honor their history.

I am proud to join my fellow colleagues in supporting the renewal of dedicated funding for the Grand Rapids Public Museum and John Ball Zoo.

I've co-signed a letter highlighting the educational, cultural, and economic value these institutions bring to our city and county residents.

This proposal would renew existing voter-approved funding at a lower millage rate than voters approved in 2016, helping ensure continued support for animal care, artifact preservation, educational programming, and affordable access to two of our community's most treasured destinations.

I encourage you to make a plan to vote YES to RENEW November 3.

This community has infused Grand Rapids with a deep spirit of connection and community engagement, elevating a culture that enriches our city in countless ways. As we strive to be a truly welcoming and inclusive home for all, I encourage everyone to take time this month to learn more about Hispanic culture and Grand Rapids' unique place within the vibrant, interconnected tapestry of North and South American cultures.

Happy Father’s Day!

My father was a role model for me my entire life and is to this day. He was one of the few people I've ever met who truly had no fear and worked for justice without any regard to personal cost. Being a dad is the greatest joy of my life, second only to being married to Melissa.
