Today, 25 years later, we remember—and we will never forget.
On September 11, 2001, brave men and women answered the call without hesitation. Firefighters, law enforcement officers, first responders, and everyday citizens demonstrated extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable tragedy. Many made the ultimate sacrifice while trying to save others.
Today, more than 20 members of Grants Pass Fire Rescue, joined by their families, came together to walk in tribute and remembrance. We were proud to walk alongside members of the Grants Pass Police Department and public safety agencies from across Josephine County. Fire, law enforcement, emergency services, families, and community members stood side by side with one shared purpose: to remember.
Twenty-five years later, gatherings like today carry an even greater responsibility. We honor those we lost, stand with the families and loved ones who continue to carry their memory, and ensure that generations to come understand the courage, service, and sacrifice demonstrated on September 11, 2001.
We walk for the firefighters who climbed the stairs when others were coming down. We walk for the law enforcement officers, first responders, and citizens who ran toward danger to help others. We walk for the families whose loved ones never came home.
Most importantly, we walk together so their sacrifice is never forgotten.
To every public safety agency across Josephine County that joined together today—thank you. Our uniforms and responsibilities may be different, but today we stood together as one public safety family to honor those who came before us and the legacy they left behind.
They were the best of us.
We remember their names.
We honor their sacrifice.
We will never forget.
