UPDATE: We are going to postpone this Facebook Live to Wednesday morning (October 7). The workshop is not being live-streamed for everyone to follow along. Ms. Tinnin indicated the meeting would be uploaded on Tuesday. So we will give everyone a chance to record and watch with the slides available to review as well.

ORIGINAL POST: There is a special board workshop this Monday night, October 5—and these are always our favorite types of meetings! Workshops are where the real data is presented, trustees can ask in-depth questions, and we get to dig into what’s actually happening behind the scenes in GCISD.

☕ Grab your coffee, set your reminders, and join us Tuesday morning for our live recap! We’ll be breaking down:

🔹 Beginning of Year Assessment Data
🔹 Transfer and Enrollment Data
🔹 Virtual and Hybrid Programs

We’ll share what was presented, the questions we still have, and what these plans mean for our students from our perspective as long-time parent advocates.

✨📚Book Club – Next Books are in!! Pick them up!📚✨

Okay… back to school was a bit crazy and we are a little behind, but… the next book club books are in! Go pick up your next book:

Mastery: Why Deeper Learning Is Essential in an Age of Distraction by Tony Wagner & Ulrik Juul Christensen

These books are available today at:
📍 Talking Animals Books
909 S. Main Street, Grapevine, TX

Ask them at the counter - they have the copies for us!

This next selection focuses directly on public education—and specifically on mastery-based learning, where students progress as they actually demonstrate understanding. Many people who have been actively involved in GCISD and supported growing so many of our programs here are huge proponents of mastery-based learning. Let’s read this together, explore how other school systems are successfully using this model, and discuss how we can continue supporting programs that serve our students and keep GCISD thriving.

🗓️ Meeting Schedule Update: We will schedule our book club meetings for Mastery for late October.

Our overall reading list remains the same—we are just adjusting our timeline slightly to give everyone time to catch up!

Grab your copy, dive in, and we hope you get to reading soon! ☕📖
