From October 15 through May 15, a burn permit from the Tennessee Division of Forestry (TDF) is required for debris pile fires and prescribed fires.

Permits are issued when it is safe to burn. When it is unsafe to burn due to hazardous fire conditions, TDF implements a burn restriction and temporarily pauses the issuance of burn permits, then resumes once conditions improve.

Today firefighters Kyle Parrish, Tim Holden, and Nathan Thome joined me at Gray United Methodist Preschool to educate the students on fire safety and let them tour the firetruck. The students were highly engaged and excited to "Charge Into Fire Safety" for fire prevention week! On behalf of Chief Dakota Sparks and the entire team at GVFD, we are proud to serve our community and proactively work to help keep you and your family safe!

When charging on a plane, keep portable charging devices on the tray table. Do not charge devices in overhead compartments and never charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane. If a battery overheats or fails, it is important for the flight crew to be able to respond quickly. For more info: fpw.org.

Stop using your device right away if the battery smells strange, is
warm to the touch, makes popping noises, changes in shape or
color, or if you see smoke. If it is safe, move the device away
from anything that can catch fire. A damaged battery can
overheat and start a fire. For more info: fpw.org.

While we are having this cool fall weather, this is the perfect time to open your windows and turn on your heat. Turn it up to about 78 degrees for 10 minutes to burn off any summer pollen and dust on the heater coils. This way, when your heat comes on for the first time when it gets really cold out, you won't awaken to a burning smell or smoke throughout your house. Of course, when in doubt, don't hesitate to call a professional to clean your system and get it ready for the winter. Stay safe! grayfire.org

Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools
outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging. These
batteries store more energy, and fires can grow quickly if they
fail. For more info: fpw.org.
