Students helping to create healthier communities in eastern North Carolina.

YHSC’s intent is to encourage high school students to pursue a career path in healthcare and become involved with their community through meaningful service. Our idea is to provide fun and interactive opportunities to get students interested in the health field so that they can continue their service into their future careers. YHSC is a program present all over the nation that operates in 33 AHECs

Last week at the 2017 NC Health Professions Diversity Conference we had a special guest join us. Brenda Armstrong works as the Associate Dean for Admissions for the Duke School of Medicine, and she was there to give us a little insight into the college admission process. Colleges are moving more towards a holistic application process where admission committees focus on more than just adademic success and standardized test scores. Instead, they are widening their scope to focus more on student involvement, community service, and overcoming barriers. Don't let a "bump in the road" discourage you from reaching your goals. Get involved, offer your time, and make yourself stand out from the norm.
