Discussing his reasons for running for the position, Thomas sta
ted, “As we all know there are many issues on the minds of the citizens of Greenville today. We are not going to tolerate the status quo. The answer goes far beyond the reactions we’ve received to date from city government.”
Thomas goes on to say, “My platform begins with focusing on our current issues, making the streets safe for the citizens of Greenville as well as long term planning. This begins with a look at all as aspects of the criminal justice system from the courts, the enforcement on the street, local leaders as well as enlisting the support of the North Carolina Crime Commission for involvement. On the growth front, we want to see a more proactive effort to stimulate jobs in the community support smart growth and planning in the city.”
Thomas has a long history in Greenville, beginning 21 years ago serving as Student Body President at East Carolina University, working as a liaison for the university and former Mayor Nancy Jenkins and the Greenville City Council. Thomas received his undergraduate degree in Business Management from East Carolina University as well as his Masters degree in Business from the University on North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Thomas served previously on the East Carolina Board of Trustees and the East Carolina University Board of Visitors. During the legislative fight to earn funding from the North Carolina State Legislature, Thomas was instrumental in developing and creating the “Purple Alert” system which organized thousands of East Carolina University alumni from across North Carolina to lobby their local senators and representatives to vote for the funding for the East Carolina Heart Institute in 2004 which now stands at UHS/Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Thomas’s background includes recruitment of business & industry for the NC Department of Commerce for the state of North Carolina as well as co-founding IQMax Inc. a medical technology company out of Charlotte North Carolina. “I have business experience on both sides of the equation--- public service, promoting to bring companies and jobs to come to North Carolina as well as contributing as a private business owner myself for the past 14 years. I would like to bring what I’ve learned in these capacities to the position in Greenville.” Thomas said, “I look forward to a great campaign and a chance to bring all these issues to the forefront. The citizens of Greenville only win, when the opportunity is given for the real issues to be debated and people are held to their commitments to serve the community. It was a hard decision with family and a business obligations to make this decision to run. It was not a something taken lightly--- but ultimately that is why--- I am running. I hope to be a part of more proactive leadership to move Greenville forward for those like me who live and work in the city.” For more information on his campaign, Thomas pointed to making contact via facebook, Allen Thomas for Mayor or email at [email protected].
