Ghosts and goblins aren’t the only things trying to trick you this Halloween. Be wary of AI voice clones and deepfake scams lurking in the shadows.

Check the candy for tampering, and double-check unexpected urgent calls or suspicious links before you bite. Real monsters don't need a rubber mask when they have a bot.

Have a spooky, fun, and safe Halloween! Sheriff Jones wants everyone to stay sharp out there.

And make sure to watch until the end!!

We want to extend a massive thank you to the incredible men and women of the Butler County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol Unit, along with the dedicated support members from the Friends of the Butler County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol!

It takes a village to keep this unit riding. In this photo, you’ll see some of our sworn members in uniform standing shoulder-to-shoulder with some of our essential 501(c)(3) support team members in the t-shirts. Together, they operate as one cohesive team.

Operating entirely on a volunteer basis, this unit dedicates well over 2,500 hours every year to serve Butler County and support our agency operations. From patrolling the grounds at the Butler County Fair and connecting with the community at Hamilpalooza, to marching in multiple parades and bringing smiles to kids' faces at Touch-a-Truck events, their commitment is unmatched. They even step up for critical agency functions, such as providing support at the Ohio Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony and engaging with youth at the Respect for Law Camp.

Behind the scenes, the members train tirelessly to maintain their operational readiness, govern the non-profit logistics, and ensure their equine partners are always prepared to serve.

Thank you to every single rider, support member, and horse for your service, your time, and your unwavering dedication to the citizens of Butler County!

Weather Wonder: October 21, 2026

In theme with the spooky season, have you ever heard about spiders predicting the weather?

During the Napoleonic Wars, a spider’s forecast may have won a battle. Frenchman Quatremer Disjonval, an officer in the Holland army and member of the Dutch resistance was captured and imprisoned in a spider infested cell during a battle with the Prussians. During his long confinement, he learned by that watching spiders’ movements and web-building could predict weather patterns. The Frenchman became so adept at reading spider movements and webs that he could foretell incoming severe weather ten to fourteen days in advanced.

Whilst in confinement, the French army invaded Holland in the winter of 1794. The possible threat of an unexpected river ice thaw left the French generals in fear of being stranded. In 1975, Disjonval wrote to a French general from his jail cell with hopes of winning his freedom. He assured the general, that based on his observations from the spiders, a hard-severe frost would hit within fourteen days that would allow the French armies to cross the frozen rivers and canals. The general was so convinced that he ordered the armies forward into Holland.

Within twelve days of that order a frost hit so hard that even the heaviest French artillery could cross the ice. This crossing of the ice allowed the French to invade the city of Utrecht on January 28th, 1795. As a reward for his incredible forecasting abilities Disjonval was released from prison.

Yesterday, the Butler County Sheriff’s Office conducted a full-scale funeral training exercise. It is a mission we hope we are never called upon to perform, yet one we must always be ready to execute with the highest level of dignity, reverence, and precision.

When a law enforcement officer or service member makes the ultimate sacrifice, their family and their memory deserve nothing less than perfection. Bringing that tribute together requires seamless coordination across multiple specialty units. During this exercise, members of our Honor Guard, Caisson Unit, Mounted Patrol Unit, and Pipes and Drums trained side-by-side to rehearse every phase of a line-of-duty funeral—from casket watch, flag folding, and r***e honors to the full horse-drawn caisson procession and riderless horse tribute.

As the emblem on our Caisson trailer states, "Those we have lost will never be forgotten." Every movement, command, and note played is a solemn promise to honor the fallen and stand beside the families they leave behind.

A sincere thank you to our community partners who helped make this realistic and honorable training possible:

• Avance Funeral Home in Fairfield for graciously opening their doors and guiding our teams through indoor service and hearse protocols.
• The Butler County Agricultural Society for providing the fairgrounds for our full-scale outdoor procession and graveside exercises.
• Thunderhorse Carriage for their continued partnership and expertise in leading the caisson team.
