Hannibal Indivisible Integrity-Generosity-Community Action by action, day by day, Indivisibles are remaking our democracy. We show up. We make calls. We listen to our neighbors.

Coordinated by a council of 12 volunteers, Hannibal Indivisible is a diverse organization of Hannibal Missouri, and area residents. We are affiliated with Indivisible - a national grassroots movement of thousands of local Indivisible groups with a mission to elect progressive leaders and rebuild our democracy. Brought together by a mutual concern for the freedoms and opportunities that have been taken away by self serving politicians, Hannibal Indivisibles want to learn about the joys that our neighbors share, and the burdens that are holding us down: the people we love, ambitions fulfilled and unfulfilled, the state of our health and wellbeing, where and how we’ve made success, and the barriers that block progress. We organize. And through that work we build movements in support of local values. With the support of our state and national Indivisible organization, and after learning the needs of our community, we can build a lasting power on our own turf with the political muscle to demonstrate our values and see that they are represented in "our" government: city, state, national.

The High that day is now supposed to be 60°, but sunny. Don’t forget your sunscreen if you feel you might need it, beverage and a chair, if you can’t stand for any length of time. I will have signs, if you need one. See you Saturday!

Interesting that some people consider a political candidate, who has a PhD in public health and is a medical doctor, dangerous because he is Muslim, yet can venerate a man convicted of 34 felonies and found civilly liable for sexual abuse and defamation, whose businesses have gone through repeated bankruptcies, and contractors have reported being left unpaid or shortchanged, whose only accomplishments in office are the destruction of government agencies and norms, denying food aid to children and poor, overseen the death of nonviolent citizens, increased inflation and record national debt, started unconstitutional wars, threatened the destruction of American cities, and more. Yet somehow, another man’s religion is the threat we’re supposed to worry about. A Muslim candidate must answer for everything anyone fears about Islam, yet this president’s admirers barely require him to answer for his own ugly conduct.
If a man’s religion troubles you more than another man’s documented wrongdoing, perhaps it’s time to examine your standards.
I believe character matters. Honesty matters. How you treat people matters. And those standards should apply equally to everyone seeking public office.
How strange that people so certain they can recognize evil in someone else’s religion have such difficulty recognizing overwhelming wrongdoing in their own political hero. Reg Ankrom

Are you voting your party — or voting your values?

According to the Kansas Speaks survey, 70%+ of Kansans support Medicaid expansion. 80%+ support raising the minimum wage. Yet our legislature hasn’t acted on these issues and many more.

So why are our elected officials voting against universal values like access to healthcare and a living wage? We’ve all heard people say, “I'll never vote for anyone who is a (FILL IN THE BLANK)!” People consistently vote against their own interests to reinforce their identity.

To help people think about voting their values — and not the letter beside the name — Boots on the Ground has created a candidate-matching tool that only looks at values, voting records and policy statements.

How it works:

Voters select which values matter most to them.

They then indicate where they stand on policies related to those values.

From there, they learn how elected officials and candidates align with their values.

This is our pilot year, so we’re only looking at Johnson County. We’ll learn and grow from there.

We use votes, published interviews, campaign materials and a candidate survey to assess positions. Everything is sourced, so voters can read first-hand where the information is coming from.

What focus groups said

We tapped into politically mixed focus groups to get feedback on content and the user experience.

Users appreciated having access to all a candidate’s voter information and interviews in one place.

People were often surprised by how they aligned — or didn’t — with someone.

We encourage you to try it out, send it to your friends and family. Start a conversation about how we close the gap between what Kansans actually believe and who’s representing us.
