Today the House passed legislation I sponsored with Rep. Davidson and Rep. Waxman that requires the Ag Dept. to ensure prisons meet basic safety and sanitation standards for food storage, prep and service. The state has a duty to protect not only those incarcerated, but also correctional officers and staff from foodborne illnesses and environmental hazards.

No Pennsylvanian living with sickle cell disease should have to wait for a crisis to receive care or fight to have their pain taken seriously. We can do more by expanding care, strengthening support and investing in the communities and institutions serving those affected. www.repmadsen.com

Our Governor, Governor Josh Shapiro doesn't just speak the words - he puts them into action. We've seen him support our city with the tragedy at the Broad Street Market - and it's great to see him helping our effort to bring life back to downtown Harrisburg.

Big news for Downtown Harrisburg! 🚀

Today I joined my colleagues and local leaders to launch Harrisburg Works for All of Us—a community-built plan shaped by feedback from 4,400+ residents. We’re unlocking $64M in public + private investment to strengthen neighborhoods, support local businesses, improve safety, and expand arts, culture, and recreation.

What’s coming:
• 🏗️ Rebuilding the Broad Street Market
• 🌳 Upgrades to Riverfront Park + safer walking/biking
• 🏨 Converting 333 Market Street into a new hotel
• 🎡 Revitalizing City Island with expanded recreation
• 💼 New loan + microgrant programs for small businesses
• 🏢 Improvements to key community assets like the East Shore YMCA, Eden Village, Historic Harrisburg Resource Center, and more

This is a true collaboration—state agencies, the City of Harrisburg, Dauphin County, the Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC, and community partners working together to build a more vibrant, connected downtown for everyone. 🙌

On Wednesday, Penn State hosted the Liberal Arts Harrisburg Career Exploration Day, bringing Liberal Arts students together with leaders from across the Commonwealth.

Students explored pathways in government, public policy, advocacy, and public service. They asked insightful questions and built meaningful connections.

A big thank‑you to the panelists for sharing insights and to the students for showing up with curiosity.
