Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed the Rowan Act into law. Named in memory of six-year-old Rowan Morey, this legislation strengthens and modernizes Michigan’s Amber Alert system so that law enforcement has more tools to act quickly when a child goes missing and is believed to be in danger.

The Rowan Act expands the circumstances in which an Amber Alert can be issued, including situations involving custodial kidnappings, runaways, and children with special needs, and it modernizes how alerts can reach the public, including through social media.

This legislation was born from an unimaginable tragedy. Rowan should still be here. While no law can change what happened to him, his legacy will now help protect other children and give families and law enforcement more tools when every second matters.

I am incredibly grateful to my colleague and bill partner, State Representative Jerry Neyer, for his work on this legislation and for standing with Rowan’s family throughout this process.

Most importantly, thank you to Brandi Morey-Pols and Brian Pols, Rowan’s mother and stepfather, and to Heidi Britten and everyone with The Rowan Project. Your courage, determination and commitment to turning unimaginable grief into action made this legislation possible.

Today, we honor Rowan making sure his life continues to make a difference.

Rowan’s legacy will help protect Michigan’s children. 💙

It was great connecting with first responders, constituents, and local business owners in the community last weekend! We had an amazing turnout with thousands of people coming together to enjoy the event and some great local food. I’m always grateful for opportunities like this to spend time with the people who make our community such a special place. Thank you to Gaines Charter Township and the Gaines Chamber of Commerce for putting on such a great event!

I proudly voted YES on HR 373.

Socialism isn't just a theory debated in classrooms. Its real-world legacy includes economic ruin, government oppression, starvation, and the deaths of millions. As these ideas gain traction in American politics, it's more important than ever to stand up for freedom, free enterprise, and individual liberty.

Michigan must never forget the lessons of history!
