Thank You for checking!

🔥CHECK YOUR BURN PILES TODAY!
If you took advantage of last week's snowfall and burned brush, check those burns today. Fire danger is increasing across the state. Brush piles can rekindle days and weeks after they appear to be out! Most of Kansas vegetation dries out quickly even when the ground remains soggy.
Take precautions with any outdoor burning, and continue to check and re-check your completed burns.

We are desperately asking the public to please SLOW down in this fog. Also, we understand that most of you have automatic headlights, but turn them on manually. Lastly, be very cautious at the K96 intersections in Haven.

10/31/2023

Please be cautious.

There will be several railroad crossings across the county that will not be activated due to K&O RR doing maintenance on the crossings. Please use caution when using these railroad crossings and look both way for trains in the area since the signals will not be functional. The railroad advised that they would be down most of the day. We will advise you when the crossing signals are active again.

🔥 Stay with your campfires or burns until they are entirely out.
🔥Be prepared with water and tools to extinguish your fires.

Make sure everyone gets there burn permit before they burn.

Are you wanting to conduct an "open burn or an agricultural open burn" in Reno County? You need to apply for a Burn Permit. (Small recreational fires or cooking fires do not require a permit.) To apply for a Reno County Burn Permit go to www.renogov.org/controlledburn or scan the QR code in the flyer below.

Register as a new user or log in with your existing account. Fill in the address for each parcel of land that could be a part of an intended burn.

After receiving your burn permit, you must notify Hutchinson / Reno County Communications Center 30 minutes prior to the start of a burn by calling the non-emergency phone number at 620-694-2800. They will require this information from you: your name, address, telephone number and permit number(s) and the location, nature and circumstances of the proposed burn.

Here is some great information from Kansas Forest Service. Please be mindful of your situation.

Today kicks off Preparedness Month! It couldn't come at a better time with our fall wildfire season right around the corner.

There are methods for homeowners to prepare their homes to withstand ember attacks during a wildfire and minimize the likelihood of flames or surface fire touching the home or any attachments. Experiments, models and post-fire studies have shown homes ignite due to the condition of the home and everything around it, up to 200’ from the foundation. This is called the Home Ignition Zone (HIZ).

We will explore the 3 HIZ this month, and easy tips that can make your home more defensible against wildfire!

A volatile weather day is possible on Tuesday. Severe storms are possible for areas east of Interstate 135 for Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday evening. Tennis ball size hail, 60-70 mph winds and tornadoes are all possible. Areas west of Interstate 135 will see critical to catastrophic grassland fire conditions.

04/07/2022

Critical fire and very windy conditions are expected again today. Wind gusts will be around 45 to 60 mph this afternoon. Avoid any activities that may cause a spark, and be sure to secure loose outdoor objects.
