Yesterday evening, at approximately 22:31 hours, Paint Rock Fire was dispatched to the area of 3101 Paint Rock Road for a reported multi-vehicle accident involving downed power lines. Units 803 and Engine 802 responded.
Upon arrival, fire personnel identified three vehicles involved and conducted an initial scene assessment. Crews identified multiple hazards, including damaged utility infrastructure and active power lines.
Vehicle 1 had left the roadway, struck and traveled through a utility pole, continued down a small embankment, and came to rest in the yard of a residence. The occupant had self-extricated prior to the arrival of fire personnel. The driver reported minor injuries.
Vehicle 2 was located on the shoulder of the roadway with power lines lying across the vehicle. Two occupants remained inside. Due to the electrical hazard, both occupants were instructed to remain inside the vehicle and not exit until Plateau Electric crews arrived and confirmed the lines had been de-energized.
Vehicle 3 had left the roadway, traveled over a small embankment, and overturned before coming to rest on its wheels in a field. The occupant had self-extricated prior to the arrival of fire personnel. The driver reported minor injuries.
Scott County EMS responded to evaluate the individuals reporting injuries. One individual was transported to the hospital by family members. The other individual declined further medical treatment and transport.
No injuries were reported among the occupants of Vehicle 2.
The Scott County Rescue Squad was requested to provide mutual aid and assist with scene operations. Fire personnel established scene safety measures, assisted with the incident, monitored hazards, and provided traffic control.
Due to the downed power lines, damaged utility infrastructure, and ongoing emergency operations, the roadway was closed to through traffic. Traffic was diverted through Tunnel Hill Road while emergency crews continued working at the scene.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol conducted its investigation while utility crews worked to repair the damaged infrastructure and restore power. Highland Telephone and Reed’s Wrecker Service also responded to assist with the incident.
The roadway remained closed for several hours while the investigation, utility repairs, and vehicle removal operations were completed.
Once all emergency operations were completed and the roadway was determined to be safe for travel, the scene was cleared and the roadway was reopened at approximately 04:15 hours.
