As we celebrate our 45th anniversary, we're looking back at 2022 when a new era of resident leadership began for Highlands Ranch Water.

On May 3, 2022, we held our first board of directors election, marking the beginning of a transition from a developer-appointed board to a board elected by the community. By 2023, all five board seats were filled by community-elected members for the first time in our history.

Today, our five-member elected board continues to make important decisions that shape the future of water and wastewater services for Highlands Ranch and Solstice.

Our next board of directors election will take place on May 4, 2027, with three of the five seats up for election. Visit the election page on our website to learn more about voter eligibility, important dates, and information about running for the board.

What is a special district and why do special district elections matter?

Did you know that Highlands Ranch Water is a special district governed by a five-member, elected Board of Directors? With our next director election coming up on May 4, 2027, we're sharing more about what a special district is, how we're governed, and why these elections are important for our community.

Please note: Our polling place has changed! In-person voting for the May 4, 2027 election will take place at the Highlands Ranch Senior Center (200 E. Highlands Ranch Parkway).

Our 2027 proposed budget is now available on our website and a hard copy of the document is available to review at our main office building (62 Plaza Drive).

The proposed budget includes rate adjustments necessary to help cover rising operating costs and investments in our water treatment plant, water storage and delivery systems, and replacement of aging infrastructure. These investments help ensure the district can continue meeting our community's water needs, maintain reliable service, and plan for the future.

If adopted, the rate changes would increase bills by 6.7%. This equates to an average increase of $7.75 per month for single-family customers. The proposed rate increases would go into effect the first full billing cycle after Jan. 1, 2027. Learn more at https://www.highlandsranchwater.org/financial-documents

Outdoor water budgets end TODAY, Oct. 15. As we transition into the cooler months, it's time to turn off your sprinklers and begin winterizing your irrigation system. Customers will continue to receive 1,000 gallons of water per billing period for supplemental outdoor watering throughout the winter. Please note that any water use exceeding your budget after Oct. 15 will result in higher charges.

A friendly reminder: Stage 1 drought restrictions remain in effect. Please continue doing your part to conserve water by reducing use by 15-20%.

REMINDER: Outdoor water budgets end in three days on Oct. 15. This annual transition is part of our regular seasonal schedule. Any outdoor water use exceeding your budget after this date will result in higher charges.

With cooler temperatures and shorter days, your landscape naturally needs less water. Reducing your outdoor watering now will help your lawn and plants prepare for the winter months ahead.
