Texas Stonewall Democrats Condemn Democratic Sheriffs for Endorsing Greg Abbott.

UPDATE: SeveralTexas sheriffs who were initially listed as endorsing Governor Greg Abbott’s reelection campaign have publicly stated that they did not endorse the governor.

They include:
- Val Verde County Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez
- Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar
• Zapata County: Sheriff Ramon Montes

SAN ANTONIO, TX — Texas Stonewall Democrats, the LGBTQ+ Caucus of the Texas Democratic Party, expressed strong disappointment in Democratic sheriffs who endorsed Republican Governor Greg Abbott for reelection, raising serious concerns about political accountability and their commitment to protecting LGBTQ+ Texans.

The sheriffs identified include:
Brewster County: Sheriff Ronnie Dodson
Brooks County: Sheriff Urbino "Benny" Martinez
Culberson County: Sheriff Oscar E. Carillo
Dimmit County: Sheriff Chris Castaneda
Duval County: Sheriff Romeo Ramirez
Jim Hogg County: Sheriff Erasmo “Kiko” Alarcon Jr.
Kenedy County: Sheriff Ramon Salinas III
Presidio County: Sheriff Danny Dominguez
Zapata County: Sheriff Ramon Montes
Zavala County: Sheriff Eusevio Salinas

"This is more than a disagreement over political strategy. It raises serious questions about principles, public trust, and accountability," said Robert Vargas III, President of Texas Stonewall Democrats. "Governor Abbott has championed policies restricting the rights of LGBTQ+ Texans and their families. These sheriffs have chosen to endorse the governor responsible for advancing those policies."

"A badge does not exempt anyone from accountability, and a Democratic title does not place anyone above scrutiny," Vargas continued. "These sheriffs are entitled to their political decisions, but their constituents are equally entitled to question those decisions and demand answers."

Vargas emphasized that political endorsements become part of an elected official's public record.

"Political decisions have consequences. Voters have every right to remember these endorsements when these sheriffs seek their trust again, including in future Democratic primaries."

Texas Stonewall Democrats reaffirmed its commitment to LGBTQ+ equality, civil rights, and accountability for elected officials.

POLITICS SECOND. TEXAS FIRST.

Outgoing Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller and Democratic nominee for Agriculture Commissioner Clayton Tucker joined MS NOW Live with Katy Tur today in Austin earlier today to discuss the rising threat of hyperscale data centers and their effect on the Texas midterm elections.

Miller is a Republican conservative. Tucker is a Democrat populist. They disagree on many things.

But if it comes to protecting Texas, they are standing shoulder to shoulder.

They both warn that without adequate statutory safeguards the unchecked expansion of hyperscale data centers threatens to destroy our water supplies, electric grid, agricultural land and rural communities.

Their message cuts across party lines:

Texas' water, land and future are too important to be sacrificed to uncontrolled corporate expansion.

Other parties. Common ground. One Texas to defend.

Texas Early Voting runs October 19th–30th, and Election Day is Tuesday, November 3rd. Hill County started strong, with more than a thousand voters turning out on the very first day of early voting. During the primary, democratic voters made it clear they are tired of the current federal and state administration. Now we have to keep that momentum going. Every vote moves us toward real change, and Hill County has already shown what’s possible when our community shows up. Let’s carry that energy through Early Voting and all the way to Election Day. When you vote, vote top to bottom on the ballot—every race matters, and every choice shapes our future.
It is recommended not to vote in uncontested races held by Republicans. We need under-votes on the official record. Democrats who stay home elect republicans. You can’t sit this one out. GO VOTE.

Be sure to VOTE on the ballot, both from Top to Bottom and from Bottom to Top. All races will determine our future. Judicial races are just as important as the US Senate Race. Vote Tom Baker for the 15th Court of Appeals, place 2 along with all Democratic Judical Candidates.

Candidate for Place 2, 15th Court of Appeals

Voting is how communities make their voices heard. When more people participate, Austin reflects our local priorities, needs, and values more clearly. Talk with your friends, family, and neighbors about the issues that matter to you, and encourage them to plan to vote. Strong turnout strengthens our democracy. Vote Albert Hunter for TX House District 13.
