Keiki Injury Prevention Coalition Statewide community-based organization committed to preventing injuries to children and youth in Hawaii.

Injury is one of the leading causes of death and disability in Hawaii for all children, responsible for more deaths of children ages 1-17, than all other causes combined. Automobile safety has been our major focus as traffic related injuries continue to be the leading cause of death for Hawaii’s children and youth. KIPC, with the help of our members, community partners and volunteers has made major strides in improving vehicle occupant protection for children in our state. Safety Seat Inspection Stations statewide offer hands-on education free of charge.

Even the spookiest costume doesn’t change the rules of the road. Every child needs to be correctly buckled every time they’re in the vehicle, especially when they’re on their way to Trick or Treat. Puffy or bulky costumes don’t fit safely under a harness or booster seat, so wear a thin layer underneath and add the costume when you reach your destination.

Carpooling is a great way to share the load, but it means double-checking a few safety basics first. Make sure the car seat fits correctly in every vehicle being used, not just your own. And confirm that anyone else driving your child knows how to install and use the seat correctly — a quick walkthrough now saves confusion later. A few extra minutes of prep means everyone rides safely, no matter whose car they're in.
