Do you ever wish the Lord would just shout what you need to hear?
How many times have we seen God's amazing provision but then ran scared when the enemy attacked?
Elijah was in the same boat. As incredible of a prophet as he was, he was still human. After the miracle from last week with the two altars, Queen Jezebel was MAD. She hated Elijah and wanted to hurt him.
Jezebel sent soldiers after Elijah. Elijah was afraid, so he ran and hid. And God took care of him AGAIN! God is so faithful and kind to us! God told Elijah to go stand on a mountain in the presence of the LORD because the LORD was about to pass by.
A powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered rocks, but the LORD wasn't in the wind. Then came an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. Next came fire, but the LORD wasn't in the fire.
Then came a GENTLE WHISPER. When Elijah heard it, the Bible tells us that "he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave." The LORD spoke with Elijah about what was going on and reminded him that he was not alone. Once again, God knew what was needed...He provided AND He spoke to Elijah.
God speaks to you and me too! Take some time with your kids to be quiet before the LORD. We do this in every age group on Sundays starting around 4-5 years old. In as little as 30-45 seconds for the little kids (and longer as they get older!), we are teaching them to not talk but to LISTEN for God's voice. His gentle whisper. He loves to speak to us!
