đźš’ YOUR COMMUNITY. YOUR NEIGHBORS. YOUR CHANCE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Have you ever thought about becoming a volunteer firefighter?

When someone in our community faces an emergency, it's often their neighbors and friends who answer the call. What if one of those neighbors was YOU?

The Ellington Fire Department is looking for individuals willing to step up and serve!

We're fortunate to have a strong team today, but with retirements approaching in the coming years, we're planning ahead. We want our next generation of firefighters trained and ready before they're needed.

🔥 Think you don't have time?
We understand! Initial Firefighter I training is approximately 98 hours, spread over five months, typically one evening a week and a few Saturdays. After training, our regular commitment is just two nights a month, plus the emergency calls you're available to answer.

We average about 100 calls each year. You don't have to make every call. Even responding to 10 calls a year can make a real difference.

🧑‍🚒 No experience? No problem!
We'll provide the training you need, at NO COST to you. Our next training class begins in January 2027!

❤️ And it's about more than fighting fires.

From vehicle accidents and carbon monoxide alarms to storm cleanup, spring flooding, and helping neighboring communities recover from severe weather, our firefighters are there when it matters most.

You don't need to be a hero to join. You just need a willingness to help.

🚨 YOUR COMMUNITY NEEDS PEOPLE LIKE YOU.

If you've ever considered joining, now is the perfect time to start the conversation.

Ellington Fire Department — Neighbors Helping Neighbors.

10/20/2026

Have you ever thought about helping your friends and neighbors during their toughest moments? Now is a great time to consider getting involved with becoming a volunteer firefighter.

Across the country emergency services are facing personnel shortages. Today, Ellington Fire Department is in good shape. We know there will be upcoming retirements and it would be wonderful to continue to train new volunteers and maintain readiness before the need becomes critical. The next round of training begins in January, and there is no cost financially for you as a fire department member.

Some people hesitate to join with the following mentality,

1. “I don’t have the time.” The Firefighter 1 training class is 98 hours. Typically one evening a week and a few Saturdays over the course of 5 months. Yes it is a bit of commitment to ensure you are state certified. After that, the commitment drops to two nights a month (business meeting & training), plus any calls you are able to respond to. Ellington Fire averages about 100 calls a year. You are not required to be at all calls. Even responding to 10 calls makes a meaningful difference to your friends and neighbors.

2. “I don’t know anything about firefighting.” You don’t need to. We provide all the training you’ll need. Fox Valley Technical College offers state certification which is valid across the whole state. The bare minimum at EFD is Firefighter 1 certification. Additional classes are available but not mandatory.

Firefighters don’t just fight fires. We give our time to make a difference in the community for calls such as carbon monoxide checks, auto accidents, and mother nature related events. The sandbagging due to flooding this past spring and tornado recovery in Neenah/ Menasha are some examples.

If you’ve ever felt the pull to help your community, please reach out. The need for firefighters may grow, and your willingness to step forward now ensures we’re ready for whatever comes next.

Ellington Fire would like to thank the Hortonville Area School District for the opportunity to support and protect all the groups that participated in yesterday's parade. We are proud to be part of the community we serve, and many of us have children in the Hortonville school system. Thank you for the invitation! Please share any pictures from the event that we may have missed.

Special thanks to the Hortonville-Hortonia Fire Department, Greenville Fire, and all first responders!

Were you aware that there are 4 fire Departments Named Ellington Fire? We got together with them to make sure our members are following the correct department. We are now labeled by state. Would like to thank the following local businesses Custom Cabinets, Cut in stone, Will Thern plumbing and septic, Gerhard, JRG Construction LLc and Town and country electric. They provided the services to complete our new kitchen in the emergency services side of the town hall. What a great addition to have for cleaning up after firefest.
