Today we had the absolute pleasure of delivering the food collected during our recent Senior Food Drive. Thanks to the generosity of our community, a total of 2,600 pounds of food was donated and delivered to residents at Pecana Park Senior Living, Bayview Apartments, and Oakview Apartments.

These donations will help support many of our senior residents and ensure they have access to much-needed resources. We are incredibly grateful to our community and our community partners who helped make this drive such a success.

Thank you for stepping up and making a difference! ❀️

Captain TJ Alessi, who is currently deployed with Texas Emergency Medical Task Force 6 (EMTF-6).

Captain Alessi is serving as part of a Force Protection Standby Group supporting response efforts for the ongoing wildfires across the State of Texas. While many see the flames on the news, there are countless responders working behind the scenes to ensure the safety of crews and communities impacted by these incidents.

We are proud to have Captain Alessi representing our department and standing ready to serve wherever he is needed. His dedication to public service extends far beyond our city limits.

Please join us in wishing him a safe deployment and thanking him for his continued commitment to protecting others. πŸ”₯πŸš‘

La Porte Police Department to Host Sensory-Friendly Touch-A-Truck Event for Autism Awareness Month

Loud sirens, flashing lights, large emergency vehicles, and unfamiliar uniforms can be overwhelming and confusing for individuals with autism and other neurodivergent conditions. In emergency situations, these sensory challenges can create additional stress and potential safety risks for individuals, their families, and first responders alike.

In recognition of Autism Awareness Month, the La Porte Police Department is taking proactive steps to bridge that gap by hosting a sensory-friendly Touch-A-Truck event on Thursday, April 23, 2026, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the La Porte Police Department, 3001 N. 23rd Street.

The event is designed to provide a calm, welcoming environment where community members can explore emergency vehicles at their own pace, meet first responders, and become familiar with the sights and sounds they may encounter during an emergency. By removing the urgency and unpredictability of real-life emergency situations, organizers hope to build comfort, understanding, and trust.
Attendees will have the opportunity to see, touch, and explore a variety of city vehicles, including police units, fire trucks, EMS vehicles, public works equipment, and specialized response vehicles. Representatives from multiple City of La Porte departments will be present to answer questions and connect families with valuable community resources.

For individuals with sensory sensitivities, early exposure in a structured and supportive setting can make a meaningful difference. Becoming familiar with emergency equipment and personnel helps reduce fear and confusion if a real emergency occurs. It also allows first responders to engage with families, learn more about the unique needs of neurodivergent individuals, and strengthen community relationships.

β€œThis event is about connection,” organizers shared. β€œWe want every member of our community to feel safe and supported. By creating a sensory-friendly experience, we are helping families prepare for emergencies while building positive interactions with our first responders.”

The Touch-A-Truck event is open to the public, and families of individuals with autism and other developmental or sensory challenges are especially encouraged to attend. The evening promises hands-on learning, meaningful conversations, and a supportive atmosphere focused on inclusion and awareness.

For more information about the event, contact Shaye Lister at 281-842-3172.
