Shelancia Daniel is an outlier. At 12 years old, Shelancia began her creativity journey where she organized a fun fair at St.

Joseph’s Elementary school in Canada to raise money for Canadian Food for Children (Formerly Dr. Simone’s Warehouse) in their bid to send food to Africa. Her vision imagined a schoolyard filled with carnival rides, her best friend’s mom dressed up as a fortuneteller and the school principal as the lone victim in the dunk tank. Shelancia’s vision became a reality and with the help of some friends,

Sitting in one of our mobile studios thinking how grateful I am to share my love of sewing and creativity with the next generation of makers! This year has been a tough one and this Holiday season reminds me of how much love and gratitude goes into this work. Wishing everyone the best of all this Holiday Season.

It felt so good to be back in the classroom today teaching a beginning sewing workshop walking students through how to service and clean their machines and then gifting a sewing machine to every single participant. Learning, confidence building, and access all in one class, hosted inside our unique thrift store space, Creativity Lives.

Oh, I can’t even begin to explain how good this morning sunshine feels. I’m gearing up to dive headfirst into a brand-new project, and it’s going to take every ounce of energy and vision I’ve got.

I started all of this ten years ago with one simple mission: teach kids to sew. Standing here today in the middle of the mini golf course inside my own creative studio… it’s a reminder that dreams do come true when you mix grit, hard work, and heart.

Thank you to everyone who supports the work we do at the . Your belief in our mission keeps us growing, keeps us creating, and keeps us reaching more kids every single day.

Stay tuned there’s so much more coming, and you’ll be hearing a lot about us very soon!

Finally getting around to unpacking after the Quilting Festival and found this beautiful shawl tucked away in my stash with the most amazing prayer attached.

To whoever dropped this off at my booth, thank you. Your words, your kindness, and your timing mean more than you know. It’s been one of the toughest years of my life, but somehow, I feel like I’m finally starting to breathe fresh air again. Your gift reminded me that hope and healing can find us, even in unexpected ways.

Creativity Lives! I made this skirt from an old quilt top that was unfinished and falling apart and turned this cute find from our thrift store into a bag/sewing kit! I’ve always loved thrift shopping, but having this amazing space that sells fabric, unfinished projects, art supplies, and so much more is absolute heaven.

Okay, it’s not that cold in Houston… but I’ve been waiting since March for the chance to wear this jacket I tailored, and I’m absolutely in love with it!

Backstory: I found it in an Amazon clearance for $5.99!!! It was too big, so I took in the back and shoulders and now it fits perfectly.

Please don’t ask me to do alterations, it’s not something I enjoy doing for other people, but it’s definitely a skill everyone should have!

One of our amazing teachers at the will be hosting an Alterations Workshop in January where you can bring your own clothes and learn to make them fit just right. Details coming soon!

On days like today when I’m switching out my scissors for a ratchet set, something not-so-great happened, Jerry wouldn’t start, and I couldn’t figure out why. After checking the batteries, I realized a cable had somehow pulled itself right out of the connection joint. These cables aren’t easy to find at local mechanic shops, and I would have had to go to a dealer or a diesel repair mechanic.

Luckily, I had a backup plan! I borrowed the part from Sherry, and Jerry was back on the road just in time for class. Still need to order a replacement, but for now 😮‍💨 I’m going to take a well-deserved rest.

This is the space where so much magic happens!
I rarely get the chance to teach cooking classes anymore, but today I’m setting up and getting ready to work with our incredible A+ (Adaptive and Neurodivergent) group!
Can anyone guess what they’re making today?
