Most people think hunting or fishing just means showing up and getting meat.
The reality is… that meat is one of the most expensive groceries you’ll ever eat.
Before anyone ever pulls a trigger or casts a line, there are months of work and thousands of dollars involved.
Here’s what actually goes into putting wild meat on the table:
Land & Property Costs
• Land lease or property taxes
• Liability insurance
• Fencing and gate maintenance
• Road maintenance for access
Wildlife & Food Plot Management
• Corn and protein feed
• Mineral blocks
• Food plot seed
• Fertilizer and soil prep
• Tractor fuel and maintenance
Stand & Hunting Setup
• Deer stands and blinds
• Ladder stands and replacement straps
• Trail cameras and batteries
• SD cards and camera plans
• Stand maintenance and repairs
Hunting Equipment
• Rifles, bows, optics
• Ammunition or arrows
• Range practice and targets
• Hunting clothing and boots
• Safety harness equipment
Processing the Animal
• Processing fees (often $100–$200+)
• Vacuum seal bags and packaging
• Freezer space and electricity
• Ice and coolers
Fishing Expenses
• Boat payments or purchase
• Boat fuel
• Boat maintenance and repairs
• Trailer tires and bearings
• Boat insurance
• Fishing rods and reels
• Line, hooks, lures, tackle
• Electronics (fish finders, GPS)
Daily Operating Costs
• Fuel for trucks and ATVs
• Chainsaws and tools
• Feeders and batteries
• Salt blocks and attractants
• Equipment repairs
So when someone asks for hunting meat or a fishing trip…
Just remember — it didn’t come from the grocery store.
It came from months of preparation, hard work, and thousands invested in the outdoors lifestyle.
And honestly…
We wouldn’t trade it for anything.

The woods have taught me something most people don’t expect.
Some people are hesitant about hunting or fishing communities. They think there will be tension, judgment, or cultural differences that make things uncomfortable.
But my experience has been the complete opposite.
When you get out in the woods or on the water with other men, something powerful happens.
The noise of the world disappears.
Politics fade away.
Backgrounds stop mattering.
Out there it’s just men, creation, and God.
I’ve shared deer camps, fishing trips, and long mornings before sunrise with men from all kinds of walks of life.
Different cultures.
Different jobs.
Different stories.
And every single time, those differences fade pretty quickly.
What you find instead is respect, laughter, and brotherhood.
Some of the best friendships I’ve built in my life started in the woods.
Hunting and fishing have never just been about harvesting game for me.
They’ve been about connection, peace, and building relationships that last a lifetime.
The outdoors has a way of reminding us that we’re a lot more alike than we are different.
Question for you:
Have you ever built a friendship through hunting, fishing, or the outdoors?

Nothing better than good water, good company, and tight lines. 🎣
Me and my guy Catfish Nate put in the work out at Lake Somerville and it paid off — solid blue cats and even pulled in a hybrid bass.
Days like this remind you why you get up early.

Help Us Get More Veterans, Kids, and First-Time Hunters Into the Woods 🇺🇸🌲
We’re working to expand our outdoor opportunities for veterans, first-time hunters, and youth, and one piece of equipment would make a huge difference: a side-by-side (UTV).
A side-by-side would allow us to:
• Safely transport veterans with mobility limitations
• Get kids deeper into the woods without exhausting hikes
• Make first-time hunting experiences more accessible and enjoyable
• Create more meaningful, confidence-building outdoor moments
If you or someone you know:
✔️ Is willing to donate a side-by-side
✔️ Has one available at a reduced cost
✔️ Knows a dealer or individual who wants to support a good cause
Please send me a message. Even sharing this post helps more than you know.
This is about more than hunting — it’s about healing, mentorship, and building lifelong memories outdoors.
Thank you for supporting those who’ve served and the next generation coming up behind them. 🙏
