A Tornado Watch is currently in effect for our area. This means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes to develop.

Please remain weather aware and be prepared to take shelter quickly if a warning is issued.

Keep phones charged and emergency alerts enabled.
If a Tornado Warning is issued, move to a small interior room on the lowest floor, away from windows.
Avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather.
Never drive through flooded roadways.

Stay alert, monitor local weather information, and take warnings seriously.

⚠️⚠️⚠️ TROPICAL STORM EDOUARD⚠️⚠️⚠️

Tropical storm Edouard has made landfall.
Rainfall Estimates
The National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston has a Flood Watch in effect for Chambers, Liberty, San Jacinto, Montgomery, Harris and Galveston counties from late tonight through Wednesday morning.

Widespread: 3 to 5 inches across the watch area
Locally higher: 6 to 9 inches
Isolated maximum: up to 10 to 15 inches in the heaviest bands
Peak rainfall rates: 3 to 4 inches per hour at times Edouard’s thickest band of showers and thunderstorms sits on the west side of the circulation — the side that sweeps across Southeast Texas once the center is inland. That puts Liberty County in the most likely corridor for the heaviest rain.

Wind will also be a factor here later tonight. Forecasters expect parts of Liberty County could see gusts of 40 to 45 mph around 10 p.m., strong enough to cause isolated power outages, particularly with saturated ground loosening tree roots.

What to expect across the county:

Rapid street and roadway flooding in Liberty, Dayton, Ames, Hardin and Cleveland
Rising water in ditches, creeks and tributaries feeding the Trinity River
Low-water crossings that can become dangerous within minutes
Scattered power outages late tonight as gusts peak
Residents in flood-prone neighborhoods should move vehicles to higher ground before the heaviest rain arrives, not after it starts.

Good afternoon again,

I have received the signed order lifting the current burn ban for Liberty County.

With that information being shared, remember the following.

A person commits an offense if the person intentionally or knowingly burns household refuse outdoors on a lot that is:
(1) located in a neighborhood; or
(2) smaller than five acres.

(3) If you have trash pickup service available at your address, you can not burn either.

The offense is a Class C Misdemeanor with a fine up to $500.00 and mandatory community service up to 100 hours.
